Trying To Decide ... Need Advice ...

I was providing childcare early last year. I let all of my kids go so that we could move and build our new home. Our new home has a daycare built into our new home.

Our home is FINALLY built!!!!!! We are still working on some small things like trim, etc. But ... here is my issue. During the time of us building our home, right before this past Christmas I found out that I was six weeks pregnant. I am now 19 weeks pregnant. So .... I am getting close to the point now where my home is about ready to start up watching children in my home again but ... am I?

I would LOVE to get started because I do miss it and the income coming in would be very helpful. But, I am seeing a specialist because I have had a high risk pregnancy so when I get about 30 weeks they are going to see me every week for ultrasounds. Not to mention ... I will be delivering my baby in about 4 months, then within my six week period after having the baby I am planning on getting my tubes tied. So I am not really sure how much recovery time I will need. So is it worth me getting started before I deliver the baby and go through that surgery?? Or should I wait until after all of that is over with??

What are your thoughts on this????

If you can and are financially stable, I would definitely wait until after the baby is born to open, especially since you have a high risk pregnancy! Get all the rest you can! Plus, when you do reach 30 weeks, you'll either have to close, drag kids to your appointments, or hire someone to sub, it just sounds like a pain in the butt!

When I had my son, I waited for 6 mo. to open my dc and it was one of the best decisions that I have ever made! I know it's not the same situation, but taking care of other people's children can be stressful and you don't need that!

What about taking on 1-2 kids to start and either finding someone to help you during appts and after you have the baby and have the tubal done? Obviously let the parents know the timeline and details of your plan but if it works it works if not at least you tried. Then at least you'll have some money still coming in and a crew after. Then when you feel up to it you can add more kids.

Thank you all very much!! I REALLY appreciate the advice. I do believe that waiting would be the best idea but, I do like the idea of only taking on a couple of kids maybe to have some income coming in and it not being so much. If I decide to open I will most definitely talk everything over with the parents and let them know my situation and the plan This way we could work together to plan ahead ...

I will do some thinking on it and see what happens. I do have three children already and this is baby #4. I had two miscarriages before this baby but, I have made it much further with this one and I can feel her move. I am pretty sure this baby is going to be just fine now ... the beginning was really scary and rough but I think we are in the clear at this point. Ive said many prayers

Maybe just taking drop-ins to get your feet wet again would be an option. You could leave days open for your appointments.

Once your baby arrives and your ready to go full speed ahead then take on full-time children. Congratulations on your pregnancy, I am wishing you a safe & speedy delivery.

That is a great idea too. I will give all of these ideas some thought and try to figure out the best for our family and myself.

Yeah, I know. I talked to my doctor about it. She said they sometimes will do that but, it is more painful so they like to do it sometime during that six weeks after you deliver. I think she may possibly be worried about it being to much on my body at once because with my first miscarriage I lost over 3 pints of my blood and had to have two blood transfusions after an outpatient DNC that another doctor done. Then I had to have another DNC in August from losing baby #2 My doctor now was my doctor with that one. My body was just healing from that and I found out I was pregnant with this baby. So I think she may be concerned about it being to much. She did tell me that they do them sometimes for some people a day or two after delivery. But she acted like with me she wanted to wait at least a couple of weeks ... I dunno ...

I was talking to my sister whom also provides childcare out of her home in the same area that I will be providing childcare. She came up with a great idea! She said why don't I look for "summer childcare" kids because the school district in our area goes back to school July 31st. Which means that would be right in time for me to actually go in and have the baby. Then ... once I felt I was healed after having the baby I could then look for full time clients. I may look into doing that ... I thought that was a wonderful idea.

That is a great idea. Then you can choose when you want to start working again after the birth and surgery.

I had many, many appointments during my first trimester (3 previous losses) and was able to stay open and maintain the clients that I actually wanted. I also booted out those I didn't. I got all new clients while pregnant, even hugely pregnant, so that won't likely be an issue for you either.

I opened my daycare when I was 3 months preg . I told all clients up front and that I would be taking time off after delivery . I took 2 clients ( kids over 2 ) and neither had a problem with me taking 2-3 weeks off . They knew to make other arrangements for that time .

That is great to hear

My biggest concern I think is that during the six weeks after delivery at some point we are planning on me going back in to have my tubes tied. So not only will I be delivering my baby but I will also be going through the surgery of having my tubes tied too during those few weeks. I have no idea the recovery time for that. :confused:

I had my tubes tied the day after delivery of my ds .
Mainly because I have no family in the area ( over 400 miles away ) and it would be much too hard to make a second trip to the hospital with my 3 kids .

As for the recovery it was nothing different than regular rest after delivery and no picking up anything heavy .
