*Sigh* I Didn't Know Finding My First Family Could Be So Stressful

So for those of you who remember, I had an interview a week ago, and the enrollment process was starting for my first family. The interview was on a Thursday, and the family seemed great and expressed interest in starting that following Monday.

Then I gave an update about the family needing a week to get all the medical records done, so they'd be starting today instead of last Monday.

Well, throughout the week I was calling the family and emailing them with reminders as well as requests for payment on Friday before care is given. I have not received one call or email back from the family ALL WEEK, payment, or the enrollment forms.

I'm pretty much not going to answer the door if they show up here this morning, and I will tell them that the spot has been filled. This is very frustrating to me.

I hope I'm not wrong for not wanting to accept their child into my daycare, and for not answering the door if they come.

No you're right. Some people are just like that. They'd rather avoid you than tell you they've decided to not enroll. It's extremely frustrating. How many times did you contact them over the last week? I'm wondering if they became overwhelmed. Some people are weird like that. Too much communication and they're turned off. Too little, and they think you're not on top of things. You can't please everyone and you should try to either!

I would make the choice to walk away, even if they decide to enroll later. When people show you who they are, believe them!!

You are doing the right thing. The parents are already disrespecting you by not answering you or letting you know if they changed their mind. I know it stinks because you want to get started. I wouldn't take them back if they tried. They probably found other arrangements and didn't have the decency to tell you

I emailed only once, and only called twice. One time was to just leave a message.

I would have done the same and moved on. Either way if they decided to enroll somewhere else, aren't ready to start yet or just didn't call back and are showing up today ... They didn't feel the need to return your calls/email and communicate with you. That wouldn't be ideal for me since I think communication is important.

Okay, I'm glad my feelings are being validated. I don't want to deal with this family at all, and I won't.

That's plenty of communication on your part! I am just starting a new dcg later this week. That will make my 3rd family in 6 mos of being open. I am not sorry I passed on a couple of fams after being on this forum. It's hard when u need the money, but worth it to be picky!! Good for you! happyface

And yes, this forum is very helpful!

I wouldnt lie and say the spot has been filled. I would be honest and say that I am not interesting in working with a family that does not have communication skills or follow instructions as outlined in my contract.

                          Good advice. Thanks.

No, they never showed up. I'm kind of relieved.

IT is so frustrating. I had a horrible time getting my first child signed up. No wants to be the first child. It gets much easier. IF they dont contact you they are not going to show up. Ive had so many rude people who have said oh we want to come take the paper work and you never hear another word.
