I have dgc who has been here for almost 2 months . You would think that being so new the parents would be able to remember my policies .

Yesterday the dcg is talking to the other kids about how she is sick and her mom gave her medicine . I just let her talk away . Then she tells me her mom gave it to her because her belly hurt , then her head hurt , her legs hurt . This dcg is 4 1/2 and does not really have the concept of time and when things happened so I am not really sure if she was given meds in the morning or the night before like she has told me , it could have been weeks ago .

I then get a call from mom in the afternoon asking if she was feeling sick or had a fever . She said she was a little sick the day before and just wanted to check .The grandfather had dropped dcg off 2 hours late because dcm wanted to let her sleep in but never told me she was not feeling well.

The dcd picked her up and I told him that under no conditions are they to give the dcg meds to mask any signs of illness . If she is sick enough to needs meds to function during the day then she is too sick to come to daycare. He agreed and said he did not know dcm did this but was not surprised either.

This is the second time that she is sick , given meds and then dropped off . The first time it was just a small cough and I explained that she can not give meds and then drop off especially not telling me she was given any meds . For the dcg's safety I need to know . She said she under stood .
The next week when she drops dcg off she laughs and said that dcg got them all sick over the weekend and did we get sick too .

I will also have the same dope and drop conversation on Friday when dcm comes in the morning .

Yeah it doesn't sound like they care, especially not dcm. I'd write up a letter letting them know that it ever happens again they would be termed and include a copy of your illness policy with the medication part highlighted.

That's beyond frustrating because they obviously don't even care if you and the other kids get sick.

ETA: actually, I'd start advertising now. Either term them immediately or wait to get someone new. Then again I'm very strict about my illness policy and I let all of my parents know that out of all of my policies I do NOT make exceptions when it comes to the health of the dck's.

They aren't following your policies because you aren't making them.

The FIRST time she doped and dropped, she would have been given a written warning that she needed to sign so that there are NO future misunderstandings about it. The warning needs to say she will be termed immediately for not complying with your policy.

The second time it happened, I would have called mom and had her come immediately for her child. Upon arrival, she would have been handed her termination papers and her child's belongings.

Personally, I would have termed on the first incident but the way you wrote it out, I take it she wasn't really aware of the rule or policy in the first place. If it wasn't something you addressed and stressed during the interview, I would have gone with the written warning, but if you did address the policy firmly during the interview, I would have termed on the first offense.

Parents will only follow your policies if you do too.

During the interview we did discuss my illness policy . But I do not mention terming for breaking the illness policy , I guess that needs to change . I stressed that masking the childs symptoms with medication is not to be done and that no otc meds will be given here .
She said she understood .
And dcd even agreed that they understood and she never told him she did it . Unless he is lying to me too.

I have had the same policy for illness for 10 years and in that time I have never had anyone not understand it . I guess a re-wording of the med / illness policy will be happening tonight .

I thought after the first time and discussion she understood it can not happen again .

I am sure she did understand but what was the consequence for doing it, you know? She was not written up the and you are not saying you will write her up now so she can only assume she will get a handslap.

I totally get it . I am not hard enough with my consequences ( or lack of terming because of policy breaking). Looks like I will be overhauling my policy sheets this week.

I just have a hard time understanding how people will say they understand and are sorry , will not do it again and then 2 weeks later do it again . I guess I am just too honest of a person to do that and out and out lie and hide things .

Before opening my daycare I worked out side the home . My mother ran a daycare and that is where my kids went . I followed all the rules , I know it is hard to call in to work saying you will not be there when your child is sick but I did it . It was my responsibility as a parent .

It is just so frustrating when the child is not put first.

That would have been the end.

I hate to be sick and if a client new the child was sick and sent the child anyway I would be done but to have the nerve to find that funny that is a liability. If you run a well child daycare then you need to be able to follow through on your policies from the get go-:confused:

aggghh she got it she is just pushing it. I would follow through and term, way too much of a liability to your program. This mentality has a trickle down effect.
