    Lying...

Does anyone have a fool-proof method to rid their house of lying? I have three girls, ages 3, 3, and 4, and almost every day I have an episode of lying out of at least one of them.

Is there a secret formula to get rid of it? Every parent has expressed concern over it happening at home, too. It's getting ridiculous. I'm trying to be very patient, and not punishing over lying, just asking for the truth and reminding them all what the truth means (what you really saw, what you really heard, what you really did).

Any suggestions, other than to kick them all out and go back to my sweet two year olds? Thanks guys!

I have this problem too . I really do not think the kids know what lying is.
Depending on the age I let the kids know that they may get a little time out if they lie but if I know they are lying ( I actually see what happened ) then they have a bigger time out and I have to let their parent know . With the school age kids I tell them that if I can not trust them then they will loose some privelidges and will have to be within my sight just like the little ones , that usually helps .

I also play a game where I make up a crazy story and ask them if I am telling the truth or lying , it helps with some but not everyone .

When my own kids were little I used to tell them their ears turn red when they lie when they were telling the truth they would say look at my ears I'm not lying. If they were lying they would try to hide them. Worked for a while til they figured out I was lying.

When my kids were little I use to send them in my daughter room to discuss what happen if I thought they were lying. I told them they better come out with the whole truth or they would have TO & they couldn't play with friends. Under my daughter's bed was a baby monitor & I heard the whole conversation. When they cam out I had them place one hand in the air as if swearing the truth while they told the story. I told them I would know if they were lying by the look in their eyes & how they held their hand. At first it was lies & they were punished. After about 4 trips in the room, the conversations switch to me going to know what really happened & the truth was told. I would praise them for being honest. It worked for me, .

ps..., My kids were adults before they ever found out about the baby monitor. lovethis
