I have had my first request for teachers Full Names by a new parent who is expected to start this month. In 11 years I have never been asked that on the front side of enrollment. Has anyone else had that request? Did you give out the info? The parent did not offer any reason why.

More than likely they want to run their own background checks.
I am not sure the legality from an employers standpoint but I totally understand the parents request.
Could you not let them see the criminal background clearance forms you already have on file for them? I am required to show mine if asked.- Unless otherwise stated, all my posts are personal opinion and worth what you paid for them.- Flag

If a provider or center was unwilling to give me full names of the staff involved with caring for my child. It would be a huge red flag.- Flag

Thanks, I totally understand, but we are a center we do background checks on all of our employees every 3 years. All centers in my area are required to do so. This family has not been very verbal even during the tour and signing up. I am happy to offer our background check forms showing they are up to date but, that is not what they asked for nor did they give a reason. It just struck me as odd. They are leaving another center so I am just not sure. I totally agree with knowing your child's teachers and if the teacher wants to share that with them I think that is fine, but offering up information like that without a reason is kind of unsettling. In the world we live in giving out any personal information to people who are virtual strangers can be risky. I would expect a private background check being done on a nanny or in home provider but, not really on staff in a center based facility that has been in business for over a decade.- Flag

I would FULLY expect a parent to run a private background check since it makes the news almost monthly that a bad provider slipped through the cracks of hiring procedures.
I run them on my clients before allowing them in my home, it is a subscription service and no longer considered out of the norm. It only tells you public information about crimes committed, not their bank account numbers.Private checks are not as detailed as the ones provided to employers.

Years in business is not a guarantee of a child’s safety or quality in personnel. A center in business for over a decade was in the news a few months back. Children were being abused.- Flag

I was a pre-k teaacher who had to report physical abuse by a father. He retaliated HARD and after having to get a restraining order and investing in a home security system -- honestly, I really wish he didn't know my full name.- Flag

I have to respectfully point out every 3 years is EXACTLY WHY, I would request a full name. Also YOU and YOUR STAFF are strangers to them and their child. Unless they are con artists, I think their asking her name is very logical & responsible.
Years in business is not a guarantee of a child’s safety or quality in personnel. A center in business for over a decade was in the news a few months back. Children were being abused.
I have worked at two centers when I was getting my teaching degree. One did had a woman spanking children where cameras could not see. I reported her with a very detailed letter, also saying another woman had witnessed this and she would be willing to discuss it as well with them, and sent it to the woman who ran the center and the higher ups. I also quit. My friend continued to work there and the woman was not fired until 18 months later. This was an upscale daycare in an upscale city.- Flag

If I had a center, I would run checks every year regardless of the licensing requirements. If the parents asked about a particular teacher, i would update that teachers info and provide that to the parent while also informing them of state requirements and daycare procedures.- Flag

I have not had that request, but the info is available to anyone who wants it - all our names are hanging on the wall with our teacher's cert and etc. As a public school teacher, we weren't allowed to hand out class lists of all the kids first and last names, so I can understand the concern, but I don't think it is an unreasonable request- Flag

This is an interesting thread. I have not ever stopped to think about it. I don't even go by my legal name. I have not since moving here from my home country. No reason other than I don't really like it and it's odd....
What is on my license and other legal documents is my real name, but what is funny, is that not one parent has ever taken notice and if they did they have never said anything.
When asked, like CH said I only show my background paperwork that was conducted by the state on all of my employees.
I would not think that a STAFF first and last name would be private information. Public schools are required to give full names, why would we be any different?- Flag
