I was messaged by a parent today asking what I would charge her for part time while she sends her to preschool. She is full time with me right now and I would still have her baby sister full time I assume. I just don't know what to charge, I do a daily rate do I'm not sure how much I should do hourly. Us I have a waiting list of 7 kids right now, so I'm torn :/ any advice would be great !! Thank you ๏ฟฝ๏ฟฝ

I don't charge an hourly rate, I only do daily. If they want to come 2 hours, it's XX dollars and if they want to come 8 hours, it's the same amount of dollars.
I just explain to the parents that it's my income and I need to make a certain amount to stay open.
If you do want to do part time, your rate would depend on your full time or daily rate now.- Flag

That would MY reply. It's hard to have kids that attend partial days.
The parents always assume that you have a FULL day space waiting for days there isn't preschool too.
Bottom line for me is that it is too hard to fill space around DCK's absence so why should I discount for THEIR choices...kwim?- Flag

I agree with what others have said about the child taking up a full day even if
she is not there .
I have had huge problems when charging by the hour . Parents claiming they were 2 minutes short and therefore did not have to pay for the hour . Or one dcm who wanted to add up minutes weekly and pay that way . Hourly was just a pain and not worth the trouble and loss of income if you have a child who could take the full time spot .- Flag

I would charge full time especially since you have a waiting list that will pay full time. I have had several preschoolers that pay for the full day even though they aren't here all day. I tried half day payments and it was a pain. There is no point doing that unless you need the income and don't have any replacement kids.....not the case for you.- Flag

I don't discount for picking up early, coming in later, missing because of appointments. I don't care if it's bible lessons, gymnastics or preschool, my rates stay the same.- Flag

I have to charge the same rate. My insurance for the daycare is 2.5mil$ so I no matter if the kid is here for 5 mins or 10 hours, it is all the same price.
It works out to a minimum of $16 a day per child. This covers them in my vehicle and for any accidents. We are on the go all the time, so this is what is necessary for me to operate safely.
I would tell the parent that unfortunately you only do a flat daily rate and there is no discount for 1/2 day. I don't think that I would be ok with this, the one and only time that I did part time care so that the child could attend another daycare 2 days a week by moms work (was the old provider the kid didnt want to leave)
the kid was always a mess. 3 different places with 3 different sets of rules. and then they want a discount. no way- Flag

Sorry, DCM but I charge daily. I do not offer hourly or part day rates.
