Oh Wow....... This Was a First

I had an interview friday evening. The family seems GREAT on the phone. Referral from another family.

Everything was going great. Showed up on time, great parenting, asked good questions. I was for certain they would be a good fit

    Then the bomb was dropped.
DCD says can you tell me what the average income is of the families that attend here, I want to make sure that my child only mingles with the best of the best, we don't want them having to deal with low income families or kids that are on "scholarships".

I could not believe my ears. I just said, sorry, that is private and personal information that I will not discuss and does not have anything to do with the services I provide. Thanks for stopping by.

Of course they emailed me last night saying that want to enroll.

    OH MY, NO WAY.

I am going to have fun writing that email. This family sounds NUTS....

Kind of reminds me of when my son was in pre-k. Our school district had pre-k programs for 1, 2, 3, and 4 year olds and another program for children with special needs who were receiving services. We were lucky enough to attend each year. Well, when we were in the 3 year old program we were told that the following school year the plan was to "mainstream" the special needs kids into the class with typical kids. Some parents were up in arms over it as if their kids would be affected in any way. Then there were those of us who saw this as simply a "slice of life". We are all different in many ways- abilities, finances, education, shape, size, etc. Not one of us is better than another. Kids are better than most adults at just accepting those differences. Shame on those parents.

I am going to have to get the BIG DOG aka (BC) to help me with this letter....

WOW that is awful of those parents to react that way over the desire of the school to merge the children all together. Parents don't realize that they are teaching their children discrimination when they do things like this.

          so sad

You're in the OC right? ::

Eta: there a lot of snobbery here, I've heard that kind of BS before, mostly "oh what does little Suzy's parents do for a living?"
Always get a generic answer from me.

                How's this:

                "Dear DCF

Thank you for your interest in my preschool program.

I regret to inform you that you do not meet the income requirements to attend my preschool.

                Sincerely

                Provider"

I once interviewed a family that wanted to enroll ONLY because I did not take state assistance. I quoted them double my rate, they couldn't afford me.

                          Dear Family,

Because the income of families your dear children come in contact with is important to you, I have decided to double your rate, so that I can better meet your needs.

I had a family pull their two dcks when I first opened because the other two dcks who were enrolled didn't look like they were in the same "financial situation" as that family was HUH???? i had to give him a piece of my mind and let him know that 1. Just because you make more money does NOT make you smarter or a better parent ( or person). 2. God help your children
