Myself and 4 other parents were chosen to give a 20 minute presentation for career day for ds's kindergarten classroom, about our jobs.
It's next week and I have nothing. any ideas???
Can you have visual aids? What about a one of those boards that prop up - you know the one with three spots? You can use that to have pictures of circle and story time, arts and crafts, play time, outdoor time, napping time. Then you can use those to talk about each thing a good child care program offers
Talk about the education requirements, safety requirements, etc.
You'll be great!!happyface
It's 20 minutes each, and they can't have something individual (over 100 kids)or to pass around (it won't get passed...). Those are the only rules. There will be a table set up in the front, if I want to bring something in to show everyone, or to 'do', I can allot time for that.
It's in the auditorium, and it's kind of a big deal to be asked in, since each classroom only gets to vote in one parent! all 5 kindergarten classes, primary staff, and parent volunteers will be there... and I have a feeling it will be big for business.
I'm going last, too. So I will have 100+ 5 year olds after they have been sitting for an hour and 20 minutes.
I was thinking about starting with a song or dance to get the wiggles out, then talking about our daily routine (there is a projector for use), my education and why I chose childcare, maybe setting up a sensory activity (or a few different ones) for them to come look at.
Also chosen:
heart surgeon
EMT
local police officer
freelance artist
Oh Wow! That will be fun!! BUT WHY ON EARTH WOULD THEY EXPECT KG KIDS TO SIT THAT LONG IN ONE SITTING???????? And why would anyone need 20 minutes to talk about their career (especially to kids that young).
At any rate...I would have some visual stuff to show, maybe some pictures for the projector and get the kids moving with some music or something. You are right...great place to market your business!!
Let us know how it goes!
I would probably present it after a dancing song, like you said, and I would put a song in there every 5 or so minutes after that. 1 hour and 20 minutes and these kids will be puddles in their seats asleep or bouncing off of the walls.
