    Jury Duty For Parent

I know some of you are stockholders about daycare kids only coming when parents are working, and pick up times being exact. What concessions do you make if the parent has jury duty and cannot pick up at the regular time. This is if they told you when they received the summons, usually 3-4 ,weeks before the date they have to show up.

Parents are still required to have the child picked up on time.

I close at 5:30 So they would need to arrange for the other parent , grand parent or friend to pick the child up if they will be late. If I did after hour care it would need to be arranged ahead of time AND it is at a higher rate than normal childcare rates. $10 an hour. And if that was not arranged and the parent was late regular late fees would apply. The parents failure to plan is not on my shoulder but theirs.
        It:: will wait

I've had this happen several times and they've always made other arrangements with no problem. My families all understand that I am not to be considered their first resort for a solution in these types of situations.

For me it would honestly depend on the family. If I was respectfully asked if it was possible + the money was good enough.

I am phasing out all of the 10 hour days I'm having (aka, families wanting to get stuff done before pick up because it's not any more expensive to keep their kids in care). So I would DEFINITELY be charging an hourly rate after their regular, contracted pick up time.

I'm not really sure why having jury duty should impact the daycare provider?! It would be like any other working late thing, the parent has to have someone else pick up at closing time. Whether it be the other parent or another relative or friend.

I would be fine with jury duty as long as the child was picked on time . Parents would need to make arrangements to be sure of that.

You're saying, for example the child is normally picked up by 3:30, let's say. Since the parent is at jury duty and isn't exactly sure when it will end the child may be there longer. I would be fine with this since I don't have contracted hours, as long as it's within my hours of operation.

Beyond that it would have to approved in advance and an extra fee would apply. In my case if they arranged for longer care they would pay it even if jury duty ended sooner, since I would be rearranging my after daycare schedule to accommodate.

I would expect a friend/family member to pick the child up on time.
If the family had no one (literally) in town I might consider adding a fee for extra hours.

I don't care if the kids come to care when the parent isn't working and so I wouldn't care if the child is here due to jury duty. I would still require the child to be picked up before closing though. As others have stated, the parent would need to make arrangements to have the child picked up if they were unable to do so.

That is my thought too. If something happens in a DCF's schedule it is up to the DCF's to make arrangements to figure it out.

It has NOTHING to do with me.

ALL my DCF's are required to have reliable back up care. If they literally had no one in town willing to help them out, I would not be able to keep the family enrolled.

I can't make up for them not having family/friends.

Exactly. I require my families to have at least one local pick up person for emergencies. If they have no one, I would not take their child. I can't be stuck with extra kids all hours because mom and dad don't have a backup plan.

                            phasing out?

Are you getting rid of these families or do you just let them know you are changing to 9hrs and anything more is xtra? How do you state it in your hb that you only provide care while parents are working.

How does one make sure the parent that goes in later drops off and the parent getting off earlier picks up?

My contract rules for hours in care stay the same regardless.
