I have Learned a Lot This Week

I will not ever do drop-in care.

I will not take children under the age of 2 because I'm not able to provide for their needs at this time.

Some parents don't care what kind of sickness their child brings into our homes.

I am rethinking this whole daycare thing because I am sick for the 4th time in 1 1/2 months.

And my son just about had a nervous breakdown today because he just can't handle the extra kids in our home (he has been on vacation this week).

I'm sorry you are having a rough week. What I would do in your shoes is take everything you learned and turn it into something positive.

Make rules and policies that reflect what you want to do and not do. Carefully consider what you feel is YOUR duty and what you feel is a PARENTAL duty and then male clear boundaries.

For ex: Your comment about illnesses being brought in....stop feeling guilty remember that most parents DON'T care if you (or your family) gets sick. They only care about if they are sick. Do the same. Be super strict about your illness policies and don't bend them for anyone.

Sounds like it's time to tighten up those reins and take your business back.

YOU are self employed.....you really do not have to do anything you don't want to. (with the exception or licensing rules/regs).

Too may providers put the needs of their clients before their own. Stop. Put YOUR (and your family's) needs first and let daycare family's worry about meeting their own needs (outside of what your services are) and call it good.

This IS a hard job and I sympathize with you and your DS so focus on what you need to do to find the joy in this job and don't stress about the rest.
