OT but do retirement parties require a gift?

Yes on the gift

Gifts are always appropriate for retirement parties. I always order from Things Remembered (for every occasion...I love personal gifts), or if you have a store nearby, they can engrave a gift for you in less than an hour!

They can also come up with great quotes and phrases for engravings...takes all the pressure off of you to come up with something eloquent, !

I would think a nice card would be fine but if you want to get a gift maybe a gift card to the movies, or for a hobby he has.

I wouldn't go to a party for any occasion without at least a small gift.

Last kid leaves tonight at 5:30, party actually starts at 5:00. I think I'll go with card and gift card, maybe to a restaurant. Hubby is picking it up on his way home. Nothing like waiting until the last minute.
