    Phone call from interested family

How would you feel if someone called who is interested in your daycare and wanted to stop in later that day (during your business hours) with their child to check things out? I had that happen for the first time this morning.. I received a call from a potential family who wants to come over today. For one, today is a busy day for us (we have my mother-in-law coming to play with the kids). Also, I don't know if I want someone who I've never met stopping in for the first time while I have kids here.

    What would you tell her?

I don't personally hold interviews while the other kids are here. For one thing, I have absolutely no idea who most of these people are. Also, I can't talk to parents, explain my most important policies, show them around, AND provide adequate supervision for the dck's. I'm no superman

I would tell them it's a safety concern to let people you don't know in while the children are present. Most parents will appreciate this policy.

I would tell them sorry for the safety of all the children, first interviews are always done after closing at 5:30, would you like to schedule an appointment to meet after that time?

if they try to argue with you about it......you don't want them anyways.

I actually have a parent coming next week while a couple kids are here but I sort of know who she is. I don't have any safety concerns regarding this mom.

              Horror Story

For the love of God, don't do it! I am so dumb, I just did one Monday. A potential client wanted to stop by during her lunch break to check things out, and since we usually have a play break between lunch and nap, I thought that would be a great time. Ummmmm, no.

The kids (normally sweet and well behaved, seriously) were MONSTERS. They got crazy and rowdy and totally showed off for this lady. Pushing, naughty smart-mouthing, tattling, stealing toys, crying...it was a disaster. I wanted to cry.

I kept apologizing to the lady, but I think she thought I was insane. As soon as the door shut behind her, my oldest DCG age 4 looked at me with big eyes and said "Oh, we were really naughty, weren't we?"

              Ya think???

What on earth makes kids crazy when they have someone to show off for? smh...

I also tell them for the safety of the children I only do interviews after hours . I remind them it is the same if their child were in my home , would they want strangers to come in ?

I will schedule a second interview during care hours if I feel comfortable with them and think they will be a good fit inmy child care.
I have only 1 parent not schedule an interview because of this .

Same here. It causes way too much chaos.

OMG! Sorry but I had to laugh a little. I don't know what makes kids crazy when they have someone to show off for but thay all seem to go a little nuts, don't they?::

I'd definitely offer a different time, outside of day care hours.
