No school for the whole week?

Ok, is my town crazy or are all schools doing this now....

My college gave us Friday and Monday off for Presidents' Day (which only Monday counts for me because I don't have class of Fridays) but all the K-12 schools in my town (I went to K-12 in another city) got ALL this week off! On top of that when I went to school I remember only getting Weds-Friday of Thanksgiving week off. Here, they get ANOTHER WEEK off... Some of the schools also get out a few hours early EVERY Thursday.

Are all schools doing this now?

The area schools I serve, all have different schedules but the closest district to me was off both Monday and Tuesday for teacher workshop days.

The district near-by has the entire week off calling it "winter break".

My sister lives 4 hours south of me and her kids were of W-F last week and Monday and Tuesday of this week.

I suppose as long as the schools complete the required number of attendance days, they can insert breaks (of any length) wherever they see fit or however it works for them.

I remember as a child getting a full week over Christmas and again over Easter. Now the days off are so split up that my own children (who attend the same district I did) barely got a full week off at any time during the school year.

If they are on a year-round schedule or "6 weeks on/1 off" schedule then this is the week they would have off. It's usually called "intersession" where I am.

I'm in upstate NY and schools are always closed in my area for winter break this week. In April they'll be closed again for the one week spring break.

I am in CA we are also closed this whole week. I love it. opportunity for me to make some extra cash. I never take school age kids unless they were once enrolled here. They are only allowed to come back in the summer and on school breaks.

Our school district has this week off and one week for apring break. But all of oyr surrounding school districts have school this week and two weeks For spring break.

The kids in our area are on winter break this week. They get a one week vacation between Christmas and New Year's Day, a week in Feb and a week in April. It's been this way since I was in school.
