    Child Development Q

    a dcp just asked me and im not sure exactly what the answer should be as it kinda threw me off.
    DCB is 2 and the parent mentioned ive noticed dcb using his right hand alot lately when do the choose their primary hand.
    Personally ive always thought around 2/3yr but i didnt really wanna answer so i didnt give a clear answer.

    My ds's K teacher told me this year that it doesn't cement until K. She has lots of kids who come in using right, and end up being lefties.

      Our doc says by 6 it is clear which hand is preferred

        I think that it can vary, but can also change even if you think it's solid.

        We were SURE DD was going to be a leftie, or truly ambidextrous, until she was over three. She always favored her left or both hands.

        We were really surprised when sometime between 4-5 she suddenly dropped the left and has been a righty ever since.

        DS is 2.5 and has always preferred his right hand...it'll be interesting to see if that changes!

          They switch a lot at this age, especially if they are just now starting to write. I'm 22 and I can write with both hands (primarily right handed); sometimes I right better with my non-dominant hand (because I take more time with it) and sometimes I wright with my left hand without even thinking about it.
