OT: Cabbage Patch Doll As Newborn Size Guide?

We are expecting our first grandchild in June happyface and I'm excited to start sewing for this little one! I'm in Canada, land of the year-long mat leave, so it's been many years since we've had an infant around here.
We bought a Swaddleme and since none of us knew how to use it, we tried it on a Cabbage Patch doll and it fit perfectly.
I've sewn a couple of diaper covers and they seem too big to me. Does anyone know if the Cabbage Patch doll (Tallulah) is the right sized model for an average size newborn?

Congratulations on your soon to be grandbaby!! happyface

I have no clue if a Cabbage Patch doll is or isn't the correct size.... when my DS was born at 4 lbs 9 oz, they didn't sell or make many teeny tiny newborn clothes so my mom bought him a bunch of sleepers from the toy section that were meant for Cabbage Patch dolls but that was 22 years ago so....

Maybe someone with a newborn could give you some real-life dimensions.

They have reborn dolls that are about the size of newborns (some are custom made and some are made to look like different ages under a year). They are so life-like that other people actually assume they are real when they first see them. (I've heard that some of them actually "breathe") They are usually used by women who have never had a baby or who can't have more children and want that "status" of looking like they have a baby (apparently babies are the new tea cup dogs). Many of the "reborn moms" buy real baby clothes for them and take them out in public like they would a real baby.

You can also look for manufactured basic clothing patterns but I'm not sure how many are made for newborns (I have seen some for infants though).

Thank you I am using a commercial sewing pattern made for a newborn, but the finished product looks big enough to fit my 13 month old DCG. Sewing patterns can be weird, size-wise.
One of my dcms is due at the end of this month. Maybe she'll let me use her little one as a model
