What Do You Think Of This Scenario?

I have had a very tough time getting clients. I currently only care for one family FT & have another very PT client (hardly worth the effort). anyway, my efforts to bring in more clients have been unsuccessful. I am considering other care options. Another provider I sort of know (just an aquaintance) is considering working outside of the home. She is considering me caring for her family & also one other family that she also cares for in her home. She lives fairly close to me (within 10 min) so if she would pick me I would have a hard time saying no. She would let me bring my son with me. So in essence the two families would be sharing me in the one mom's home. My home stays clean, I get to take my child with me, Win-Win (I think!). Plus I would likely more than double my salary. I know there are some downsides like not being in my own home. But I'm starting to feel like I can't keeping waiting for the perfect family to come along b/c it just isn't happening. I live in a pretty small town although we are close to our state's capital we are far enough out that finding customers is not easy. I don't know what the hours would be but I do know that Fridays would be an early day & I would be home by 1:00 so that is a plus. Help me think through the positives & negatives. Thank you!

I don't think it sounds like a bad idea. I would just make sure you have some kind of contract so you know where you stand with pay, time off, overtime ect.

Just a few thoughts.....what would happen to your full time family that you have now? Is it worth it to give them up for this other job? Also, what if someone from the first family gets sick....wouldn't that be awkward to be in someone else's house while they are there, sick, watching another family also? What if everyone from host family is sick? You would have nowhere to watch the 2nd family.

I wonder if it wouldn't be a better idea to ask host family and 2nd family to join your existing daycare if host mom decides to get a job outside the home. That just makes more sense to me.

      Just some thoughts I had......

I don't make enough $$$ from my current family. I would have to let them go. Taking on these 2 families (5 kids) would more than double my income. I could not care for all of them, my current family & the newbies b/c the two families combined would be 5 kids + my son & I am only allowed to watch 6 kids in my state. It would not make sense for them to come to my house. Even though I am only 10-15 min from their home my home is in the opposite direction of their work so they would have to drive 20-25 min (roundtrip) from their house & then back toward their home & beyond to get to work. I'm guessing it would easily add an extra 1/2 hr + to their drive. I think that would be too much of a hassle for them. I have no clue about illness but I am guessing we would have to discuss those issues. That definitely gives me something to think about!
