Same here. I prefer not to do the mouth therm. because of the germ thing. I also have an ear therm but the temple therm. works well for me for the kids without having to buy the little covers that the ear thermometer needs.

We have a temporal digital swipe one. I love it & it was the best $35 I spent. We got it at Wal-MArt. . . it has been great for us, 2 years & running. The brand is, I can't seem to find it right now (the thermometer) but it starts with a letter E.
      It's an Exergen

        1. Where do you keep your thermometer? daycare area, first aid, bathroom, with other family personal items?

We have to have a first aide box, so I keep a thermometer in there to use for daycare, and I have a couple extras too. I also have one for home too.

        2. Do you have two or more you use just for daycare?

One for home use and then I have a couple for daycare.

        3. Is anyone required to take an infants temperature with a rectal one like they recommend until they're a year or just treat them like an older child and under the arm, ear, or in the mouth?

I also do under the arm...I find that warming it up a little before taking the temps gets a more accurate reading.

        4. Last question, how do you clean it or does it have a new plastic cover you use each time?

I wipe it with alcohol at the end of the day, or before I take the temp of anyone else.

I like the underarm method...I will NOT do rectal, ears doesnt seem to work well, the mouth method is too hard with small kids, and I am never able to do the forehead method correctly.

My downstairs bathroom is only a half bath so I keep my therm.'s in the medicine cabinet. I can't keep much else in there because of licensing so I might as well keep SOMETHING in there . I also have a small travel first-aid kit that I keep in the trunk of my car in a daycare diaper bag for trips, park days etc. In there is one of those therm. strips. It worls enough for me to get a general idea of what a childs temp. is. If it's high I can go home and re-takle the temp with a better one.

          2. Do you have two or more you use just for daycare?
I have the underarm one for the infants, the temporal one for the rest and a strip kind for daycare. My family and I use the digital mouth therm.

I don't do rectal for sanitary purposes. I don't want to have to clean the thermometer after I'm done with it.

          4. Last question, how do you clean it or does it have a new plastic cover you use each time?
Since I use an underarm and temporal therm all I do is disinfect it with an alcohol wipe before and after It's used.
