How has the recent cuts in child care assistance affected you, your friends who do care, and the businesses around you?

Hasn't affected me at all, not really anyway. I accept assistance but don't have any clients at all right now on the program thank goodness but I do have a mom with an infant that has been holding a spot (paying $100 a month) until her name gets called on the list. She was on the top of the list and now it's been postponed fpr a bit since she works.
I do know a provider that has a large DC home though that lost 4 kids all at once because of the cuts and has had to lay her employee off because of it. I try to help out the assistant she had by letting her sub for me or come by and watch the kiddos while I clean etc. since I feel bad for her. We all know each other and it ****s. -
I have 2 on assistance right now. 1 program was always funded so no big deal there. The 2nd one I'm still waiting to get paid from July. I will get paid its just when. Her program will continue so thats good.Comment

I know of someone who has a large daycare. She has not gotten paid since May of this year. She has lost most of her clients because all of them were on this State program. I think right now she has a few part timers that can not afford full care at the moment. When I last spoke to her she said she should be getting paid soon.
I personally do not have anyone on the program. I only watch 4 kids one is mine and they are all under two years old. My families jobs seem to be stable. I have a new little one starting next week. I have been doing in home day care for 1 1/2 years it has always been a challenge to get kids it takes me 3-4 months. I live in a neighborhood where most of the moms are SAHMs Most of my clients live in the neighborhood.Comment

I have only been doing this for a few months. It has not affected me because all of my families are private pay (thank goodness). A couple of my husbands family members are losing their daycare assistance and don't know what they are going to do. The kids will prob get bounced around from family member to family member- who ever is available. Sad!Comment

So far it hasn't affected me at all, as all of my clients are private pay. I know there have been some providers who have been put out of business, especially center based programs. Stage three calworks childcare subsidies was cut, but has been restored until Nov. 5th. It will probably end up being fully restored, which I don't entirely agree with happening. Some providers are so certain it will be restored that those with openings are advertising and accepting these clients for free, but still submitting the paperwork for stage three, with the thought that they will be getting the backpay at some point, and their spaces will be filled. This is not the first time calworks childcare funding has been cut due to the budget and then restored within weeks, so these providers with openings may be on to something there :confused:
The biggest effect isn't being seen yet. Licensing is broke. They will no longer be conducting orientations or processing new center applications. They have cut office hours for answering phones down to bare minimum. They will be responding to major complaints, but for now annual random inspections and mandatory every five year inspections for providers will be put on the back burner.....scary thought, that some providers who need to be monitored, won't be. I have a hard time understanding why they are unable to continue with normal operations though, as we pay into the licening system to cover the basic costs of having a licensing system in the first place. Seems they don't understand the concept of budgeting

Really great point about licensing. I did here that they had stopped conducting orientation, but I still thought they were making the random visits. I had a random visit a month ago. I live in Orange County maybe it was one of the last for awhile.Comment
