Part timers Switching Days?

I only have 1 pt dcf, they come 2 days a week(Mon. and Thurs) During Christmas, because of the schedule, I asked her if she'd like to come a different day. She declined but paid me the regular amount, which I expected.

Two weeks ago her dd was sick Monday. I never gave it any thought when she came in Thursday and asked if her dd could come Friday. I said sure, thinking she'd be paying for 3 days, not 2. I questioned her when I noticed the check was for 2 days. She brought up the fact her dd was sick Monday. All I could come up with was 'I didn't realize we were switching days'. Then an awkward mumbling and we both kinda said see ya next week. I have in my handbook, they're responsible for payment if they cancel for the day. Plus, I don't get reimbursed by the food program either because she's only listed for Mon and Thurs.

Someone please lend me your backbone, mine doesn't seem to be holding up very well.

The bain of part timers is schedule switching and Holiday pay. The best answer when they ask for a different day is "yes, I am always glad to make extra money". That then defines whether or not they know it is just an extra day not a make up day.

If they are wanting a make up day then you can just refer to your policy that the fee is for the contracted days not based on attendance.

I'm probably the rare one here but as long as and I repeat as long as it doesn't inconvenience me, I let them switch. It rarely, rarely happens. As far as the food program, I have all of my families fill out there forms for Monday through Friday from open until close. That way, if anything changes with a schedule, you don't have to redo or lose money on it.

This is what I do as well. I don't mind if they switch a day, especially since I love my 2 pt kids.

Yeah I don't allow them to switch days unless it's an advanced notice kind of thing. I don't have anymore PTers but I think I only allowed it once and the other days I consider drop in and they're paid that day. I may excuse this one time but I wouldn't make a habit of it plus it's in your contract that they pay for sick days, they're not credited back. And for the food program I was told to always check the boxes "days vary" and "times vary" because this stuff happens and then you don't have to worry about it.

Part of why it bothered me is because when a ft dcp's child is out sick, they don't get that chance to make it up, kwim? Plus the fact she never inquired about switching the day and I just assumed she was adding on a day. And don't ask me why I never filled in my FP form different. Need to be smacked upside the head for that one I guess.

I have a very specific policy for part timers. Based on the sole fact that allowing them to switch days or make up days is giving them a perk or benefit that your full timers don't have and in my opinion, full timers are my bread and butter so they are the ones I'd rather cater to verses giving part timers a break.

Also, someone mentioned it being okay because they really like their part time kids....which is awesome but a horrible base on which to build or run a business IMHO. If I acted on whether or not I liked or disliked my daycare kids (or parents) I would have been out of business a long time ago. (I am NOT saying it is wrong...it just goes against MY personal business plan and how I do things)

My policy for part timers is your days are your days. There is NO switching days without adding fees.

If a family wants access to a full time space so they can pick and choose which days they get to use, then they have to pay for that privilege.

As for holidays. If I am closed on a holiday and it is a day I charge for, then ALL families pay for that day. Not just full timers.

I aim to make sure it is the full time families (that support my business) that get the majority of the perks that occur. My loyalty is to them because without them I wouldn't have the income base I do. Part time families are "fillers" for me.
