Really Can This Even Be Real?

This is on my local craigslist how do you even compete when there are people advertising for basically free care.

You don’t. You pray the kids placed in her care are safe.

You just keep on running your business.

It just "got" me. Needing extra income? 5 dollars a day, is she not going to feed them?

Nah, she's not your competition. Any parent you would want as a client has already ran for the hills

My local news just ran a story about some of these being a front for prostitution.

The neighbors they interviewed all had the same "...but this is a nice neighborhood, gasp" reaction...

That can't be legit. Even if parents provided the food. There is no way anyone is working for $5 or $10/day. That's insane.

Wow I hadn't thought about it being that kind of scam. Scary.

Anyone who would bring their child anywhere for $5 a day is just out of their mind. I don't know how people can even let just random strangers watch their kids. In CA you're supposed to be background checked, TB tested, etc. even to watch one child. Someone posted on a local moms Facebook discussion group that she watches her friends kids before preschool and is going to watch another friends infant and didn't know what to charge. Um totally not okay! I said (as nicely as possible) that it isn't wise to advertise that you're providing illegal childcare. There's a fine of $500/day not to mention she's not LiveScanned or anything. I basically said it's like asking your hairdresser to fix your car for cheap. There are professionals who do this legit and charge a fair rate and this kinda stuff ****s for those of us who DO follow the rules!

Well, if she gets 20 kids, she'll get $100 for the day. $200 if they are all over 4.

Who charges more for school agers than babies and toddlers, anyway?

I do NOT understand how these ads are not investigated by licensing. Again and again I say...why are they worried about "quality improvement" by raising the bar on regulated providers, while countless people do care illegally and are not shut down?

This one has been advertising for several years. Maybe I should skip licensing and just report her to the I.R.S?

Unfortunately the state (well mine anyways) doesn't have any money to investigate illegal providers, but this "quality improvement" program is going full blast. I understand that the funding is through whoever, but still.

I feel that the sad part about all of this is that with all of the required quality improvement BS will only allow more and more people to do things illegally. It will be come to costly or difficult to open an actual licensed child care program.

I fear what the future holds for all of us...... ugh.
