    Waiting List

I am finally full happyface and still receiving calls. My question is how do I make/control a waiting list. Advice is very welcome and thank you all in advance.

I don't actively interview interested parents unless I have an opening coming up. Anyone interested is put on a list.

If I get an opening, I contact EVERYONE on the list (who I think may be a good fit). I THEN interview and let the parents know I will chose which child I want to take by a certain date.

So it is never a "first on the list gets it". 100% up to me.

So when a potential calls or emails me, do I let them know I am full and have a waiting list or do I interview then put on list. This is first time being full and still receiving calls and emails.

I tell them I am full and I do not interview unless I have an opening coming up. I ask them if they would like to be notified when I DO have an opening coming available.

I agree with Meeko. I wouldn't waste my time interviewing families when I don't have an opening in the foreseeable future. In my area, most families are looking for immediate care - so by the time you call them they have probably found alternate care. If you had done an interview, that is a lot of time/energy put out for nothing.

I also understand the other side though. I mean how would someone know if they want to be on your wait list if they haven't met with you and interviewed. BUT, in our case, most people who choose to be on the wait list are referrals and coming because of our reputation, so they are fine going on the wait list without interviewing. The other time a wait list is helpful is with pregnant DCMs, who are looking for future care.
