I have a set of parents who think that their kids can sleep whenever they need to regardless of daycare nap time. I'm new to daycare and I'm trying to establish a routine. I'm finding it difficult when the kids are miserable because they need a real early nap versus after lunch. They are plenty old enough to nap after lunch but the lack of a home schedule is causing issues for me. Any suggestions?

Get a backbone and enforce it. Deal with cranky kids or call for pick up if they fall asleep, or are too miserable to be in attendance. I have adjusted nap time for younger kids and my older ones did fine with an earlier nap, but never just because they didn't go to bed at a decent time.- Flag

I had a DCB who took a 9am nap and a 2pm nap but eventually started phasing out the PM nap which was when the other 3 DCBs napped so it was hard to schedule things. I gradually started laying him down later, seeing how long he could go and eventually just bumped lunch from 12 to 11:30 and laid everyone down at 12! It was a miracle! I was able to get everyone down for a nap! happyface He could still have gone down at 9am if I left him and usually had a rough patch between 10-11 but we made it through with distraction.- Flag

Put them back to bed right when they arrive for an hour or so. Have parents feed breakfast and then send them straight to bed. Get them all up at the same time and VIOLA.... everyone is on the same schedule.- Flag
