Don't get me wrong, I am super glad you are able to recoup money owed to you, but can I ask why you are even having to go to small claims court?

Are you not a pre-paid daycare?

Do require a deposit to cover the last two weeks of care?

I'm just curious. Not giving you grief or anything. I used to be post pay and spent a lot of time in small claims but since moving to pre-pay only I haven't had to file for a long long time.

        YAY for judgements!

I am prepay and could potentially lose the last 2 weeks. I have still been unable to get parents to put down the two week deposit. It is not at all typical for my area.

It is not for my area either but what I've been doing this year is have parents pay me $10-25 more each time they pay until it equals what their 2-week notice will be.

NONE of my clients had a problem with it. I just explained to them that terminations can sometimes be uncomfortable for both parties and in order to protect us both financially...it's a good cushion to have that final two weeks paid for in full.

I think when you present things as a benefit to parents, they are more apt to agree.

Awesome that you got the judgments, bummer that you had to go to court.

Now on to the fun of collecting!

I would like to hear the juicy details. I love hearing about providers getting what they are owed

These were early learning lessons that just came to court. The parents were all CCDF cases which involved the last two weeks & 2 failed to scan (POS machine) the last week of service. The 3rd one, I file an abuse complaint & the mother said she wasn't bringing her child back until the case was resolved. (She was angry I called them.) I reminded her she would still owe her weekly fee in the meantime. When asked, they all told the judge they owe the fees & set up payment arrangements..., with interest & court cost.

The ironic thing is all parents could have owed nothing if they would have used CCDF personal time.

This is a great idea, BC! You have no idea how much I have benefited from your insight and years of experience! I will be instituting this for my next clients and

I have always done prepay, although just a one-week deposit, and then pay on Mondays in advance of care.
