    Announcing Pregnancy?

I know most of you all wait as long as possible to announce pregnancy to daycare parents, but I wasn't sure if I should it announce it sooner. I am almost 8 weeks along and wasn't planning on announcing it until after the first trimester. However, I am having my typical morning sickness and I'm not sure if I should say something sooner. I always get really sick when pregnant so it's really no surprise. With my first I had to go to the ER 3 times and ended up on a home IV and Zofran pump. With my second child, it was much better but I still had to call out a few days and be medicated.

I would say so far, this one is definitely better than the first but slightly worse or on par with the second. I am vomiting 4-6 times a day, with the majority of that occurring while the children are in my care. I have been a trooper and worked through all of it (also getting over bronchitis on top of everything else), but still maintaining the same level of high quality food and activities. On the other hand, the vomiting is very loud and violent and it would be very naive to think the children aren't noticing. On top of it, there have been several occasions when the parents have done drop-offs or pick-ups right as I'm finishing vomiting. If they didn't hear it at the door, my face usually looks like a hot mess (hair pulled back, eyes bulging out and bloodshot, fresh tears wiped away before I open the door.....I can't make any of this disappear instantaneously).

I was thinking of announcing the pregnancy sooner but leaving out how bad the morning sickness really is. I don't want anyone to think I'm unfit to take care of their child....everything else has been the same. On top of it all, my dh has been helping tremendously in the previous weeks. What do you all think?

I waited until 4 months along (I'm very nervous and superstitious), and I was surprised, but they all knew based on how I was acting, apparently. I had weeks and weeks of morning sickness, and I know that I held it together, but I was a little short fused with the parents, and made them resign contracts and termed one family because I had no patience for their b.s.

That being said, I think the most important information they wanted from me was that my pregnancy wouldn't be an issue for them- I had my assistant cover every appointment, so they didn't have to miss any work (of course, right, that's all most parents care about).

Best of luck, whatever you decide

What a trooper!!! I was MISERABLE while pregnant.

I would probably announce it sooner, as soon as I had a rough plan lined up for appointments, and maternity leave.

Congratulations, and I hope you feel better soon!

Thanks for the quick responses ! It's been hard this time not having the ability to call out sick. I suppose I could but its not like tomorrow will be any better.

I told my parents/clients when I was pregnant early both times. I didn't want them to hear it from someone else. Not really sick either time so I was blessed. I kept two nurses' children from my gynecologist office at the time so they got me early appointments, then sent me on my way back to daycare.

Oh, I'm so sorry! I literally slept on the bathroom floor with my first pregnancy. It was a nightmare. It wasn't morning sickness, it was all day, night, anything triggered it. I can't imagine doing daycare during that. UGH.

Personally, I would tell the parents so that they don't think your are bulemic or emotional, etc. That's just me though. I'm more of an open book when it comes to things like that.

Congratulations!! I hope that it gets better soon!
