DCbaby has MRSA

Does anyone have experience with this? He is 3mo and started antibiotics for 3 small blisters in his diaper area. He will not be coming today or tomorrow but will be back on Friday.

Dcm is acting like it is a BIG deal and I need to inform all of the parents. She is a first time nervous nelly type dcm. None of my other kids have any signs of it.

This is dcbaby's 3rd week here so I am sure they think he got it here. But dcm works at a preschool herself (with kids who still are in diapers.) I wonder if she could be a carrier?

Well having MRSA **IS** a big deal, especially as an infant. Last summer I was hospitalized for a Staph infection and I prayed to God it wasn't MRSA. If it was MRSA I'd be kept in isolation and the drs and nurses would have to suit up in biohazard suits to see me. That will live with you forever. Any infection you get after will become a big deal, maybe not in reality but to the drs who treat, etc. And it's highly contagious when open. I was told if I had it, my children and dh and possibly the daycare kids could all have it as well. I would feel horrible if I infected others with it unknowingly. Thank God it was two other strains of Staph but that was a really stressful time for me.
I think by law you have to notify families who've been exposed to it?

I will check out that other thread. I didn't know if it was a big deal or not, this dcm tends to think everything is a big deal.

It is a big deal BUT as it is in the diaper area the other children will not have come into contact with it. You need to glove when changing and be extra careful with the diaper wipe and surface. I would put paper down and roll it all up together and bag it then wash extremely well. a child that young would not have contact with the others


dil got it while nursing she works in a hospital. she was hospitalized and needed surgery but dgs had two spots and on oral meds. At first the dr did not want me to come help because of the childcare until I told him I had had a class on universal precautions and always followed them.

If you have multiple babies and don't glove up and fully sanitize between each child it's possible to spread and not only to the other kids but to you too. It's not a problem once there's been a diagnosis and you KNOW, but it's before you know and aren't super careful that it can be spread, especially applying ointment or anything.
It's not like the end of world, close up shop, exclude the child, etc. but if there's an open sore that can't be kept covered and dry then they need to be excluded. And once you test positive for it and it's on your medical records, you're considered to be MRSA + forever. I know someone who has it and she's a dentist so it's not like you're banned from everything for life, but when you have an open sore it's another story. And TBH I would be devastated to find out my infant had MRSA

Ugh! I have spent a good part of the day reading about MRSA. It seems that there are carriers and then people who actually get it. I don't want to deal with this! I really didn't want to take this baby in the first place but dcm was high pressure because we are distantly related and I caved.

Then she said she wants to quit her job and work here.

Now MRSA.
