    What Are Your Rate Policies For Varying Circumstances

    I was curious what everyone's policy was for various circumstances, more for the home daycare side of things...

    Do you still charge your regular rate during a sick day for the child? What about for you? Do you offer a certain number of "free" sick days per year? Do you give yourself paid sick days?

    What about if the parent voluntarily keeps their child home for vacation?

    Do you as a provider take paid vacation, holidays, personal days?

    Yes.

    No. I take 3 weeks of vacation throughout the year. I close for all major holidays and I scheduled in a few random days to catch up on appointments and things.
    I answered above in red, but I charge for all contracted days that I'm open. If they keep them home for any reason (illness, vacation, etc.) payment is still required. If I close for any reason (except weather related closures or closures due to loss of utilities) then payment isn't required. If they've already paid and I close unexpectedly then I credit them for the following week.

    I know most providers charge no matter what and my goal is to get to that point, but I just started in June of last year. I don't know any jobs I would qualify for that would pay me year round regardless of whether I worked or not so this is what I feel comfortable with.

      I have a flat tuition rate- parents pay whether the child is here or not. I have about 8 paid holidays and take up to 10 days (sick or personal) off paid. After 6 months, parents get one week (# is dependent on the # of days they come in a week) unpaid vacation provided I get at least 2 weeks notice.

        My families all pay monthly, the same rate every month. They are paying for a spot in my program, not the days they attend. I have 5 personal days, about 10 holidays and take 2 weeks a year vacation. Vacation is technically unpaid, I set my weekly rate at where I wanted it so that when averaged out over 50 weeks (instead of 52) I getting paid what I need.

          I charge one flat rate 52 weeks a year. This includes, emergency/vacation/professional/holidays/personal days.....Clients pay for the spot, not attendance.

            Yes. My clients are charged based on enrollment, not attendance.

            What about for you?
            No. If I close because I am sick then I do not charge my clients.

            No. If I close for a sick/personal day then I don't charge. If I am open and a child doesn't attend then I still charge.

            Do you give yourself paid sick days?
            No. But I rarely get sick enough to close.

            I don't give vacation days either. If they are absent, they pay.

            No. I personally don't feel the necessity to charge for vacation days but my family and I go on vacations during long holiday weekends anyway except for 1 week a year. My clients usually take up to 4 vacations a year so it's worth it to me to not charge when I go on vacation and charge when they go on vacation since they go on more vacations than I do.

            holidays?
            I do charge for some holidays. 9 in all per calendar year.

            personal days?
            I don't charge.

            Well, that's what I tell my clients anyway but (and here is the kicker) I already have vacation days and sick days for me factored into my rates so even though I tell clients that I don't charge when I'm closed (other than holidays), which is extremely appealing when compared to other providers in my area, I actually do charge. They just don't know it's factored into my rate.

              I give three free sick days a year ... other then that they pay unless I am closed......

                I charge by the hour. If they're not here, I don't charge. Holidays are unpaid.

                  I have 5 paid sick days for myself. They do not get a tuition reduction if they are out sick.
                  What about if the parent voluntarily keeps their child home for vacation?
                  If they are a full time child, and I get two weeks notice, they may take 5 consecutive days vacation at no charge.

                  I take 10 vacation days paid, all holidays paid and 5 personal days paid

                  I live in a very high COL area and keep my rates about average. I choose to take the above perks instead of rasing my rates. Days off keep me sane.

                    I charge regardless of attendance.

                    I do give full and part time families 1 vacation a year, equal to contracted days in a week, where they don't have to pay.

                    I have 5 sick/personal/whatever days.

                    I have one paid vacation a year. I can opt for another week, but I don't make them pay.

                      If I am sick I send the kids to backup (on me). So no, no paid sick days

                      I get paid the same 12 months a year and have off approximately 2 weeks during the year (holiday closings). I have off just over 2 weeks in August, and that is paid proportionately only if the child wasn't with me the whole year. I get off 3 personal days a year. I can take them when I want as long as I give the parents 2 weeks notice. Any other time I need time off or to go out, I have my sub I bring in. If I couldn't find a sub, I would have to close and send them to backup for the day (on me).

                        What about for you? Never take sick days for me, but if I did I would give them a days credit toward the next week.
