    Little 3 yr old Thief

So mom came today to pick up and she starts digging in her pocket and says she has some stuff for me. She pulled out about 8 of my Thomas The Train cars that her son took home. He's 3. This is the second time. He puts them in his pocket and forgets about them or something and takes them home. I know that some would be mad, but I thought it was funny. He's one of my best kids and I absolutely love the family. Gonna check him tomorrow though before he goes home haha. I started messing with mom though and told her that that might explain why my wedding ring was missing. She got white as a ghost hahaha! I was kidding of course!

Yeah, I'm with you...I don't think a 3 year old is capable of doing it knowingly. Maybe mom needs to put sweat pants without pockets on this for a while? Just until he breaks the habit of using those pockets.

My dcb does this , too. Mom and I laugh all the time about the weird stuff in his pockets. Rocks, sticks, plants, food, scraps of paper, change (a $20 once. I handed it to her and said "I assume this wasn't a tip ?"

We had him wear athletic pants or sweats for a bit ( still didn't help the coat pockets) we did airport security style "empty your pockets" when coming & going, he is better about emptying them now.

No I have a huge huge container of train stuff that was all my sons when he was about that age. He could take 20 of them and I wouldnt' notice. I'll be checking him tomorrow though. I have no idea how he got out of here with them. Their older son found them under their couch and knew that they came from here. He must take 1 at a time. hahaha!

Eh, I've had kids who are forgetful, but I've also had kids who tend to toy hoard and I know they did it on purpose even at 3 (little Susie won't let anyone play with the pink car, and lo and behold the pink car "somehow" makes it into her go home bag ) I wouldn't make a huge deal of it, but I would be "frisking" as they left. I would lose my good humor if the child was 4+

I don't know what his reasoning is with it, but he's a very sweet boy. He's actually a little immature for 3 too. I would just love to know where he puts them. Maybe he puts them in his bag. I'm going to move the bag to a different spot and see if that helps. Or maybe I should leave it in the same spot and search it before he leaves. Then I can see if that's how he does it.

I have a toy hoarder, too, he's two. Once at pickup he refused to give up a toy car, was tantruming, DCM asked if he could just take it home...maybe it was mean of me, but he wasn't leaving until he gave up the car (he had a gazillion of them at home but had to have this one). Because next time, what would it be? The tv?

I don't think that was mean at all! I don't know if I could have stopped myself from giving mom a weird look and asking "Are you SERIOUS?!"

Why can't parents say NO to their children? Geez, you're right. Today the car, tomorrow something else. Control issue! I have had kids want to take stuff home and they give it back and I put it on the counter by the door and tell them that I'll leave it there and it will be there for you when you come in the morning. Works like a charm.

I have had this happen, too. On MORE than one occasion with a former dcb.

That's what I did, although I was prepared to make the him cry harder by ripping it from his greedy little paws & then send him on his not-so-merry way (kidding!)

But if your dcb legitimately took the toys home by accident, that's understandable, & kudos to DCM for returning them to you!
