    Sleep Sacks

Daycare family had a baby boy this week! Yay! happyface He will be starting here with me around the first of March. I haven't had a baby here since 2006 so I was reading up on the new recommendations about SIDS etc. I see that they no longer recommend covering a baby with a blanket and say you should use sleep sacks instead. Anyone have any experience with them? I want to buy a couple and wondered are there any features to them that I should definitely look for?

Eh. They're pretty simple; I wouldn't stress too much about it. Go to Once Upon a Child if you have those around and pick up a couple used ones. I wouldn't pay full price
Hee hee! Look, I have a signature!

I saw that some have swaddling arms built into them. I wondered if those were better than the ones without? Maybe I will get one of each. ACK! As much as I love having a baby around they make me NERVOUS LOL!

I love sleep sacks! For the itty bitties I use the ones that swaddle the arms because they help reduce the startle reflex so they'll sleep better. In my state we can't swaddle, but sleeping garments are ok so they're perfect.

Then when they don't startle as easily but not yet rolling over I switch to sleep sacks that have arms. When they start rolling over I stop using them.

One of my dcm's gave me a sleep sack to use with her baby - it was the first time I had ever used one. I had been having a little trouble getting him to sleep at nap time. I couldn't believe how the baby responded to it! It was the kind with the swaddle arms and no exaggeration...he instantly calmed as soon as his feet went into the sack. He quickly fell asleep and stayed asleep much longer than when he was put down to sleep without the sack. I really was amazed at how well it worked.

I love sleep sacks! My recommendation for any newborns is getting them used to napping in the playroom where all of the noise is. I have a little area in my playroom gated off for the infant and her pnp is there, I have room for tummy time and for her to be on the floor on her back, etc. I play music a lot and my other DCK are loud so she is getting quite used to the noise and can sleep through it.

Make sure you have more than just one sleep sack as they get spit up on!

I used one with ds after I stopped swaddling until he was around 1 I think. Great way to keep them cozy! Just make sure they don't ge too hot! This one was heavy though.

Check E-Bay as well. I got a fleece HALO sleep sack for $7. They are usually around $15-30. I love it!
