    Craigslist

    Found this:

Everyone doing daycare please beware of this single mother . I watched her kids for 2 1/2 months and then today she sent one of her friends to pick up her kids and paid me only $160.00 of the $350.00 that she owed me and then said that they won't be coming back here for daycare. She's a single mother and her kids didn't have heavy coats that fit them nor winter boots so I bought them new winter coats and boats and let her come to my place to do her laundry. Now she's doing this to me. That's ok because her kids were brats the little girl cried all day long for her mom, her son was so bad and lied all the time and was always in trouble or in the corner. I have another little boy who is 3 1/2 and he was picking up bad habits from her son . My other parent didn't like this. So she did me a favor by quitting but it sure would have been nice for her to pay me what she did owe me. I learned from this. But I've got other parents and kids set up for interviews and I already have 3 new kids starting on Monday..... Just be aware of A****MC***** SHE'S BAD NEWS>>>>>>>>

I find this really upsetting that a provider would post such a thing on craigslist kwim? Here understandable

Yeah I don't think that's a good idea. I hope the dcp takes care of the provider putting that on Craigslist. Did you flag the post?

When I read that I kept thinking "why did you continue care through all of that!? sorry, but you did it to yourself"

Sooo unprofessional!! I would never post such a thing. Even if she posted everything about her owing money... The part about her kids was really rude. Believe me, I'd like to say those things sometimes but I don't.

I wouldn't have posted that personally, but would be glad to get the heads up in case I lived in that area and that mom came around looking for daycare!

I thought that was illegal (it's considered libel), not to mention unprofessional. If I were her current clients and I saw that and knew it was her; I would complain to licensing and drop out of her daycare ASAP because that could be me one day that she that she publically bashes if I cross her. Not only can she get in trouble for libel but she could also get in trouble for leaking confidential information about her clients.

I understand that she is trying to warn people and that she needed to blow off steam, but publically complaining about someone in a close region public post and disclosing their full names is too much. Why not just form a local provider's support group?

I agree. Not professional at all.

I agree, that is not professional at all! It would be nice to be warned, but still, not professional. Plus, who knows what the full story is.

I have seen a few cl posts like that on the cl in my area!

Where we live, there's a "daycare list circulation" of bad parents/non paying clients, violent kids etc.

It's sent only upon request and only the facts are allowed. (Example: Parent didn't pay. The list looks like this:

                    Parent: Jenny Smith
                    Child : Bobby Smith
                    Amount owed $350.00
                    Owed since: ______.

                    Or child behavior:

                    Parent: Jenny Smith
                    Child: Bobby Smith
Removed from daycare for: Biting, lying, hitting, other violence
Referred parents to state for assistance, etc.

This way, it's not just laid out in public, and nothing bad is said about the kids. Just facts only.

Curious... how is it circulated? Is it something typed up that's emailed to everyone? Is one person in charge of the list? Is the provider who added the info named on it? I think this would be a nice idea (similar to a local provider watch type thing), but I can see it backfiring.

It's PM'ed to other CL providers. If you're a provider that had a problem, you add to the list and PM to the person you responded to. It just kind of circulates

You start it by saying "I'm having a problem with a dcp. It's a payment problem, anyone have a list of names?" and someone sends you the list and if your problem dcp isn't on there, you agree to add the name and send back to the person who sends to you.

Th CL post is unprofessional but my guess is that it might also be intended to be a joke, in poor test of course.
Any one could post that, or something similar just to see what happens.

I'm the odd man out here....
No, it's not in good taste. I definitely would not have said the parts about the kids being brats or having behavior issues.

But on the other hand, I think we as providers need to stick together to look out for each other and this may have been her only means of getting the word out.

I am no lawyer, but my understanding of libel is that it is a published statement that is defamatory and false.

However, don't most states have privacy/confidentiality laws? This might fall under that category and be illegal on that basis.
