    Question About Sleeping Arrangements

Hi there, I am new to this forum but have had my in home daycare for nearly 20 years....I don't normally take more than one infant at a time but starting Monday will have 2. My dc infant sleeps in my room while the other children sleep in the living room. If I were to have a desire to have both infants in the living room with the other kids, how does that work? I know the big centers have all of the infants sleeping in one room. Can anyone give me some hints please?

Hi and welcome to the forum! You must be a west coaster like I am. A lot of members are east coasters, so you'll get some responses tomorrow.

I usually have 2 infants, I have my daycare setup so they can both always be on the same floor I am...I keep them with me until they are on schedule with the rest of the kids

          Hi!

I used to work in a center environment (for 14 yrs.) before opening my fcc and yes, in most centers, all of them sleep together in the same area, with the sleeping area right by the play area. Most infants get used to the noise of other infants and will sleep when they need to and if not, they seem to get used to the noise after a period of time and will sleep.

As for a fcc, (it's my understanding you want them to sleep in your living room all the time-even when the other children are up) if the infants are used to the noise, then they will sleep when they need to. If they aren't used to the noise, they will either more than likely get used to it, and if not then, well they won't sleep. You could always move one to the room if needed.

Last year I had two infants and for the most part, they both slept fine when the other kids were up and playing.

            Thank you!

I so do not want to mess up nap time for everyone, including myself! Thank you for responding, think I will keep them in my room for a bit. Have a great day!

You could try some white noise as well. Helps keep the level of playing children or other infants crying less shocking.

I have one large room divided into play centers with shelving/couches/etc....I run a fan where the infants sleep which works well.....kind of drowns out the noise of the older kids playing while infants take a morning nap....my infants' second nap is the same time as the other kids so the fan runs along with a classical/soothing music CD I have... this has always worked for me.
