    Awwwwkwaaard...

Christmas Week... DCP showed up Monday and said she'd be gone until after the Holiday. DCB is scheduled every day but Thursday's weekly. So really, he'd only be missing Friday. Unless...she meant after New Years? I sent a text and e-mail asking for clarification and didn't hear back. She didn't pay ahead so I was also missing her Friday payment.

    Mon 30 (no show/no call)
Tuesday 31st - She comes at 9am (typically is there by 7:30)... I was thinking no kids today, go me! Um...nope, no communication at all, he was my only kid. I said... "I didn't hear from you, I didn't think he'd be here, just a reminder I close at three today since it's New Years Eve." She replied "we got in late last night, his schedule is all off, he's pretty cranky, sorry! I'll come get him by noon and bring your check". Great, thanks. She came at 12:30 and gave me the check.

Today - She show's up this morning on my doorstep. Um... Today is Thursday, she isn't scheduled for Thursday's, ever? I said "Are you planning to bring him every Thursday, or is this just because of the Holiday... she looked at me then started VERY loudly saying, OMG...it's Thursday? Really? I can't believe I messed this up, we don't come on Thursdays?? OMG OMG. I said if you need me I can watch DCB? (meekly, as he's screaming)... she almost said yes, but probably thought she'd have to pay for it, then said -- I'm sorry!! And, took off quickly. So Weird. I kinda felt bad.

I will definitely be setting up some sort of calendar system. I watch for mainly teachers, so most of my parents take some time off -- but I found most of them wanted to use me as they wanted with wonky schedules because they were required to pay they would just randomly drop off at all different times. I understand it's hard to pay someone and not feel entitled - but it's really stressful on me to not have a set schedule down. I'd rather have them all the time, and not sporadically and wonder where they are all the time. Showing up at 11:45 and saying, DCB hasn't eaten lunch yet is NOT okay. Is really glad tomorrow is Friday =)

Poor thing (dcm) doesn't know what day of the week it is. That IS awkward!

I'd give her a few days to get back on track, then talk to her Monday. "So, dcm, I know the last few weeks have been crazy, huh? Now that things are back to normal, I've got to remind you, though. PLEASE, make sure to communicate with me. I need to know when dcb is going to be here (or not), and if you're going to be gone, we've got to plan payment arrangements ahead of time!"

Idk....maybe I'm just a suspicious person, but I never believe it when people act like that.

Why all the screaming and OMG? Everybody mixes days up at one point or another- not an incredibly big deal. Unless she had scheduled something...

I feel like she was trying to get something out of you with all that drama...not sure what though

I sort of agree with HunniBee - like she was trying to pull something. Glad you straightened her out! However, the first thing that popped into my head was when I had a teacher parent. With my teacher DCP I have in my contract (or I did at the time - this was several years ago) that I would not charge for snow days when the schools closed if they stayed home with their kids. I would prefer to spend the day with my own kids. All my parents are school teachers so shouldn't be a problem, right? One day when I had already heard that this particular DCP's school had closed & my own kids' school had too I was delighted thinking "yeah! a day off" when earlier than normal DCM stomps up to my door with all 3 kids (1 a SA). She WAS NOT dressed for school. I quickly asked - "Isn't your school closed? I heard it on the news??" she made some proclamation about how she didn't know - had no idea - was school really closed????? All the schools around me use ONE CALL & we get calls at early hours & texts telling us school is closed so I didn't for one second believe she had no clue her school was closed. She did leave with all the kids in tow. I am pretty sure she intended to go home to bed or go shopping. Sorry, not gonna happen when you aren't paying for it!::

I don't know, I've been off on my days before... (I've gotten up in a rush before thinking I was late for work, only to get ready for work in a hurry...and it was a Sat. - a no work day)

She could be off or trying to pull a free day for herself. If she's not normally like this, my bet is she is having a frantic week.

Some schools in our area will close school for the kids but make teachers report in. I guess they want the kids safe but not the teachers?

Oh, She was definitely trying to pull one over. She's try to swap days (Oops Memorial Day was a holiday, so I'll just bring him Thurs.!) I told her that was not okay and she had to pay if she was on a non-scheduled day. I've made the exception only in the scenario where I took UNPAID vacation time M-W and offered to watch him on Thursdays (PAID). I made sure to mention it was paid, and she paid. She's had a lot of time off and I felt really bad turning him away. He had HFM and she had a vacation planned right after that, and apparently she just started a new job - So I know she's stressed. Her older kid (2nd grade) is still on break from school and her Husband is home watching him? I know the older one is less work, but it was NOT my scheduled day, and they were NOT offering to pay me.

Many teachers are off on break in our area, due to go back Jan 6th. BUT... It's supposed to be -11 here for a HIGH on Monday, and many schools are projected to be closed. I'll have to see what that means for enrollment Monday...

And the Mom was really loud, kinda freaky loud... DCM: Really?? It's Thurs? OMG? I can't believe I'm here? We don't come on Thursday's!! OMG! ME: "I can watch him if you need me too?" <meekly> and DCB is screaming. DCM: Really? Hmmm... She turns and says, um... no see you tomorrow and takes off.
