    Receipt Keeping/Scanner

I keep daycare food receipts for taxes, because I spend a lot more on food than what I can deduct with standard meal deductions. I am looking for a scanner for my receipts, because this paperwork is just getting out of control. I have a scanner attached to my computer printer for bigger (infrequent) scanning, so a small size is not only OK, but preferable. Of course, the cheaper the better, but I'd like it to be user friendly, too.

    Any suggestions?

I use an hp all in one that's wifi and prints over the network. It all prints wirelessly from my iPad. I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world. It makes my life so much easier on a daily basis.

I also have a wireless all-in-one printer/copier/scanner BUUUUT, since getting my i-pad, I've discovered a FANTASTIC app that allows you to take a picture of a receipt and/or document and turn that picture into a pdf, jpeg or google doc. file

So now I have been laying all my receipts out on a sheet of paper, snapping the photo and saving them...easy peasy.

The app will also e-mail the info to wherever I want it to go. The app is for both i-phones and i-pads and advertised as a way to turn your phone or tablet into a pocket scanner.

Maybe you can help me. I have a scanner app but I don't know what to do with the receipt after I scan it, do I just store it in the app or send it to my computer? Then do you throw away the paper copy? I just don't understand how it works.

I send the picture or file to my computer and put it in a folder that says "Daycare Receipts 201x".

Then I toss the actual receipt in a plastic shoebox container and leave it until AFTER I have my taxes done for that year.

Once my taxes are done, I save the entire file somewhere safe and toss the actual paper receipts.

IIRC, we don't actually have to save the paper receipts once we've recorded them. If I get audited, I am counting on the photo and my bank account to be proof enough kwim?

            That makes sense. Thanks!

That's a lot like the hp control app I have on my iPad. It does all that except I have to scan it instead of snap a picture.

I'm going to try yur app and see if it makes it easier thanks!

I have a similar app to Blackcat, called tinyscan, and I love it. I have it on my phone, and I have sent PDFs to licensing, my attorney, and my doctor with it and no one has ever had a problem. I was worried that the quality of the photo would not hold, but it does, and it has really made things easier.
