    Gross

The preschool I work at is progressively getting dirtier and dirtier, and we can't get management to care. We have a cleaning crew who comes in after we close, but they do a horrible job.

There is something wrong with the plumbing so the toilets back up regularly, slobber/snot on the windows (silly toddlers licking the window) will stay there forever, the floors appear to be mopped but really aren't - we have stains in our classroom of stuff that was spilled last month - still there. Dirt collects in corners, the carpets are filthy. There is a growing gnat problem.

I have personally gone to management about each of these issues - only to be placated and nothing done about it. We as teachers are limited in we can do, no bleach or solvents are allowed. All we can use are these environmentally friendly cleaners which do next to nothing (I suspect they're being overly diluted to save money ).

Not only is this a yucky environment for me to work in, my child goes there part time. I'm very seriously considering sending an anonymous letter to our corporate office complaining and threatening to call licensing. I know a licensing visit would ultimately come down on the teachers heads, but its getting plain disgusting. At my old job I kept everything clean, fresh and sani-tized, so i dont get this.

    Wwyd?

You are a DCM..., so just tell them a DCM complained & they might pull their child if something isn't done soon. Add, "I hope they don't call they state over it." Maybe it will work, idk..

The center where I used to work was just like this! It's amazing that the parents don't take any notice, and continue to bring their kids (and spend a fortune to send their kids to these places). We had the worst fly infestation, dumpster was rarely emptied, so the flies were coming from there from dirty diapers piling up. There was a mouse in the infants water jug, and the dishwasher broke, and there was no intention of ever getting a new one. Teachers would use the same nasty rag to wash out all the cups, and the toilets were backed up all the time. Nothing ever changed-they changed cleaning people because stains on the rug were never cleaned, but it didn't matter very much.
I would call licensing anonymously with general complaints that anyone would notice-not stuff that only a teacher would know. For example, if I called licensing over the lack of a working dishwasher, my director would have known a teacher called since only staff knew about it. I wouldn't want my child in an unclean environment, so I totally understand your concerns. If nothing works, it may be time to move on to a new job, if possible.

we have a health board here. I would call them, every place must have one of these, they are linked with the city.

my kids school decided (ok it was the stupid principal) to put composters in all the classrooms. Yup right in the rooms. Well, the flies were so bad that even the teachers wouldn't sit and eat lunch in the rooms. My kids couldn't eat their lunches because they spent the time swatting fruit flies. Well me and a bunch of moms called the health board who went and made complaints and the health board investigated and took care of the problem. they also had to move the outside composters a certain distance from the outside doors.

I would call and report them to whatever authority inspects them. That's gross!

vinegar is cheap and works well diluted. Part of doing daycare/preschool is the cleaning. Instead of letting a cleaning crew come in that is not doing a good job, delegate it out to staff and everyone chip in and get it done. Leave the bigger stuff to the clean crew and expect that it be done right seeing how that is what they are getting paid for.

Gnats are from standing water and or bad food. Many things on the net to get rid of these pest-

Magic eraser best stuff out there- I don't understand why you can't use cleaning solvents so long as you keep them out of the reach of kids.

I see cleaning up spills and such as part of the job as you go. Why let it sit there a month? I think employees need a check list of what is expected of them. Cleaning a window from the kids I consider something I do when needed. Deep cleaning I can understand that they hire out a pro but if the pro is not doing what they are being paid for time to look for another company for the job.

I understand its out of your control for the most part, but much of this you could step in and just get it done- Esp if I had my own kid going there let alone other little kids.

We clean up what we can. We have no access to mops, cleaning supplies , etc. All we have are the weak cleaning solutions and paper towels. If we spill paint or something sticky in the classroom, all we have to get it up with are paper towels. The floor still has to be mopped, which doesn't happen. If the toilet overflows, all we can do is spread paper towels on it.

If it was something we could just take care of on our own, we would.
