Open DC And Afterschool In Home?

Is it possible to run a dc and an afterschool in the same home?

I am located in California btw.

I'm in California and I don't see any reason why not, as long as you are under the capacity cap at any given time. You can always swap out older kids for younger in your numbers allowed.

My max is 6 right now for my small dc.

Can i open an afterschool in the garage as long it meets building requirements and safety requirements? and have a maximum too?

I'm confused by what you mean... IF you have a small family DC you're limited to 8 kids, 2 can be infants if at least 1 of the others is in school. But you would be limited by hours and capacity doing after school care and daycare. You'd be empty all day and full all afternoon or you would need 2 shifts, before school and after school. You could do like a preschool type program during the day ending at 2 and then after school kids arriving at 2:30 or whatever. But it wouldn't be cost effective to have 8 after school kids and none during the day. 2 shifts would obviously be the most money for you.
I currently have 2 SA kids of my own and 1 SA DCK. Even though they're not here until 3pm I still have to count them in my ratio. I have yet to find anyone who can pickup by 3pm, let alone 3 people, so I haven't been able to use an AM/PM type schedule for those school age spots.
IF you have a large family license, that allows you up to 14 kids I believe but you have to have a helper over 8. Sooooo theoretically you could have a helper come for the after school time only and take 7 SA kids on top of the 7 you have all day. That would be your best bet for offering a daycare AND after school program.

You can operate anywhere in your home that's been inspected by licensing.

What i meant was two separate program.

I'll be running the daycare in the house, 6-8 max all day 7:00-6:30 pm . And convert the garage into an afterschool operating from 2:30 - 6:00. The daycare will still be operating along with the afterschool.

has anyone tried this in their home?

But you can only have 6-8 total... Period. Unless you get a large family DC license and helper you can't run a program with 6-8 kids and then another with even 1 kid. You are limited to 6-8 total with a small family Dc license.
