I own a 12 gauge shotgun and I plan on getting my conceal handgun license (CHL) sometime this year. My shotgun is registered and my daycare rep knows I have it. My parents are also aware of it. My question is if I get my CHL could I carry during transport and field trips. No it would be loaded or around the children. I do plan on getting a handgun. Thoughts

My guns are triple locked. Trigger locks, locked in gun safe, gun safe locked in a dedicated gun closet, and ammo stored locked elsewhere.
You MAY be able to carry on trips, but WHY would you? Having a gun anywhere around children is a bad idea, IMO.- Flag

I guess I'm not understanding what the issue might be - either it's allowed or it isn't. A quick call to licensing will clear up any confusion on the OP's part. Easy peasey. My original response was that I doubt it is - simply because with ever increasing regulations that are overstepping providers personal rights as it is, I would be shocked as heck if carrying a concealed weapon was allowed.- Flag

I think probably the best answer you're going to get is from licensing. I know here in Kansas firearms and ammunition must be locked individually and separately, but I'm not sure if our regs say weapons must be kept away from children. I'm assuming yes, though... just because IMO guns and young kids don't mix.- Flag

I live in Texas. We are allowed to have firearms in our homes. My rep asked to see mine when she came for inspections and I have all ammo in a locked safe and my gun on the top shelf in its case. She ok'd it as safe.- Flag

For field trips and such I would say no because then they aren't properly locked and secured. All it would take is a few seconds for an accident to happen. Pepper spray IMO would be the better choice if you feel unsafe and need something for protection.- Flag

I am Pro firearms. I feel that they are very beneficial under most circumstances. But I still have no weapons in my home. To me it is too big of a risk with children in the home.

I might look into the pepper spray or maybe a tazer. I rather be prepared then not.- Flag

I agree. I would own a shotgun for protection/hunting, but that's it. I don't think guns should be around kids though & would never let my kids attend a daycare where they are around them. Locked safely away is one thing; on your body while working with babies, toddlers, and preschoolers is inappropriate I think.
