    DCM's News

Little dcg only comes 2 days a week and she's a real sweetheart. I do wish I could switch her into a fulltimer and cut one of my ft'ers to pt. Anyways, dcm came in yesterday and announced she's pregnant. I said "Congratulations!" Then she adds, with twins. 15 weeks. Guess it was kind of a surprise and they're just getting used to the idea.
But I have no idea what this will mean for me. Have any of you taken on infant twins and how did the adjustment go?
Then I have another dcm who asked me if I'd have room if they start trying in the next year to have another.
I love love love babies but wow, when it rains, it pours.

I've had twin infants ONCE before and I loved it. It was a great experience. I kept them for three years.

not to be a debbie downer but my last family that announced they were having twins ended up having their pt'er go full time with me during the pregnancy and then about a month after the babies were born they pulled DCK.

It was too expensive for them to afford three little kids in DC..

I hope that this does not happen to you. I have never done twins before. I came really close once, but they were just too much for me to take on with my program and they were really young.

I've had two sets of twins over the years. Both sets were boys, and it was not difficult at all. The best thing you can do is get them on a schedule as quick as possible. They tend to entertain each other, even as infants, so in some ways it's even easier than having just one. My current set of twins is leaving for kindy in the fall and I'm going to miss them so much.

Had triplets once and was actually not difficult once I relaxed and quit worrying.
          I see little people.

Could you even have all 3 just pt? I am limited to 6 so that would be hard for me. I would also wonder if the mom would just stay home with 3 kidlets.
I have had all my last babies as sets. Not twins but born in the same month. It has been fine.

I was just thinking out loud a little bit. I'm not sure I could even take them, guess it depends on the situation in my daycare when the opportunity arises. We all know those changes can come at the drop of a hat. I never like to think that far ahead when it comes to new dcks. I've been asked so often in the past 'can you take so-n-so 3 months down the road' and it never happens.
Plus with my daycare shifting to younger ones recently, I doubt I'll have all over-twos anyways so couldn't take 2 under 2.

I do truly enjoy their sweet sunny little girl while she's here though.

I always get so stressed whenever a DCM asks me if I will have room for their baby when they get pregnant...it puts so much pressure on me. I always think - OMG what if I decide to quit doing DC and this poor family planned on having another child just because they thought they would have a great place for their baby!!

I know that is likely not a huge deciding factor in them having another baby but it still stresses me out!

I wouldn't worry about it at all nor would I commit to anything so far in advance. I would tell them we would discuss it closer to the due date when I would know what spots my be available. Probably around the 6 month mark, I would see how long maternity leave they are planning on taking and go over my policy for holding spots, deposits, etc., assuming I thought I would have the space. I would not worry at all about parents planning to have a baby based around my daycare. That is very unwise to base a big decision like that on one person caring for their child. There are a million daycares out there. Even if they loved you to pieces, they would find someone else quickly if they needed to. No one is really going to say "I would not have had this baby if I knew that my sitter was going to quit daycare". Life goes on, if it doesnt work out for you to watch their kids, they will figure out another plan and that will be that. no biggie.

Oh I know cheerfuldom, parents would survive just fine without us. They'd always find someone else, especially in my area. Daycare providers and centers are 'a dime a dozen'.

I am in awe though, because 4 short months ago, I was down 2 dcks, scraping by a little bit harder, now I've got a ft'er starting in a couple weeks and the potential to be completely full sooner rather than later. The security(as much security as one can feel in the profession) feels good. I also had a dcf(all SA's now) ask if I'd have room next summer for a 2 1/2 yo(her sister will be looking for care). Nothing is positive until there are signatures and money in hand. But you have to admit, it does do the ego a bit of good too.

unfortunately that's exactly what happened to me recently ... I was happy when I got the "I'm having a baby" news from one of my parents, but weeks later she found out she was having twins and I had to tell her I couldn't take them, I would not have had 2 opening to accommodate both
...I'm still sad I can't stretch my ratio and take her babies, they will be born soon
