So You've Done The Steps, Now What?

You have interviewed for an opening. You like one family. They said they will let you know if they are interested after fully looking over the paperwork. You say you will let them know at the end of interviews. Smiles around, shaking of hands, part ways....

So far this one family seems a good fit. Do I wait for her to get back to me or I get back to her? (Her interview was Friday) And if you would contact first, how exactly would you word it?

Half of me feels if she wanted it, she would contact. They need to start Thur. I don't want to seem pushy. The other half feels I should notify them of the opening. When an interview closes 'hanging' how do you handle it?

At the end of every interview, unless they are going on the waiting list, I remind them that spaces are first come first served and can only be secured by completing the paperwork and returning it. And that until the spot is secured, it's not theirs. That way they understand that each spot is time sensitive.

At this point, I would just wait it out. If they are needing care that quickly, that are going to be in touch with you if they are interested.

I always follow up with a thank you email, a copy of my paperwork, tell them to call or email if they have any further questions or concerns, and ask them to let me know either way their decision.

A thank you is always an appropriate follow up contact. You could include that their child is your first choice to fill the spot, though you do have interest from other families and ask that they respond by XXX if they are interested, or to follow up with any questions or concerns immediately, so that you may fill the spot with your 2nd choice if they have decided not to enroll.

            Thanks!

Since she is looking so soon, I agree, she is either going to call or not pretty soon. She would have to secure by Tue. So in this case, I just sent a 'pleasure to meet you and your family', let me know if they have any questions and a happy new year and left it at that.

But in the future I will state a deadline either way.

At the end of the interview, I let them know that spaces are only secured with completed paperwork, first payment + registration fee, agreed upon start date and time. I also tell them that I am conducting other interviews (sometimes I am, sometimes I am not ) and will let THEM know by X date if the space is still available. I always call afterwards and thank them for interviewing, if I want the family, I say the space is available and if they have any questions to let me know by X date. If I don't I thank them for their time and tell them that the space is full, but they could be placed on the waiting list if they are interested in that. (and sometimes I put them on and sometimes I don't )
