    Awards

Do any of you do "helper of the day" or "best manners" or any kind of encouraging awards? Looking for some ideas and the "requirements" if you will of the different ones you have done. Also, how much have they helped things and did it last? Any ideas are good, thanks!

I do a Helper of the Day every day...However, I don't give awards for helping the most...Instead, during circle time, I have all the kids stand up. I draw a name from a container labled "Waiting to be Helper of the Day." I give the kids hints. Ex. "The Helper of the Day is a boy." (All girls sit down.) "The Helper of the Day is wearing an orange shirt." (Anyone wearing anything other than orange sits down.) You get the point.
Anyway, I do like 5 hints, until I'm down to the one kid standing. Then I show the name and they get SO excited. They get to pick out a tie, a Helper Hat, or a vest to wear to distinguish them from the other kids.

We also make a sentence on a dry erase board ______ is our Helper of the Day. ______ likes ______.

The kids and I read it together. The Helper of the Day gets to be the line leader, pick his/her caboose, help set the table for lunch, and anything else we need them to do. They all know if they don't behave, their tie/hat/vest will be taken away, and they will no longer be the helper.

Oh, I also have another container labeled "Already been Helper of the Day," and that's where I put the names after I draw them. Then everyone gets a turn, and we start over when the names are all gone.
I don't like giving awards for things that the kids know they should do anyway. I just do lots and lots of praise. Hope this helps!!

Awards are hard to do here because of the large variance in ages. My 4yr old would get them all and the younger three would just eat them::. The 2-3yr olds would rather color or paint something, at that age they are all about 'look what I did!'
      I see little people.

I give random award certificates that I send home for the day for "best table manners" / Great job in helping pick up toys / Nicest friend / Great job sharing / Best manners(thank yous, please etc) / Best Listener

The kids love them and on those crazy days I can use them to bribe them to be good !!!
