    DC Handbook/CPR

Do any of you have anything in your childcare handbook stating that in the event of an emergency, you (the parent or guardian) consent for the daycare provider/assistant to give CPR/ First Aid/ Call 911?

When I took CPR, the instructor encouraged that we state something along those lines so we have parent consent and they can't come back saying they never said we could give CPR or call an ambulance.

    Thanks!

Absolutely. It's a permission form to provide medical and dental care including transportation at the parent's expense.

Can anyone post a copy of the form? Or the wording that you use if you created your own version of it? Thanks!

I use the enrollment packet provided by my state but included in the packet is the following info for cpr:

I, hereby give __________________________________ permission to
          (educator/assistant)

administer basic first aid and/or CPR to my child _______________________, and/or take my child to a hospital for medical treatment when I cannot be reached or when delay would be dangerous to my child's health.

          ______________________ ________
          Parent/Guardian Signature Date

Edited to say that some of the type above shifted a little when I hit "submit reply" but it at least gives you an idea for wording.

Ok, I'm confused. I need to go check my handbook in the morning. I know I need forms filled out to administer medicine/antibiotics, but I need one giving me permission to save the kids life? I'm sorry, but if little johnny is laying flat out on my kitchen floor, unresponsive and not breathing.. he's getting CPR.

I thought that Good Samaritan laws basically state that when a person is unconscious and in need of CPR that the fact that they're unconscious is all the consent you need. I'll work on getting some links.

Here's one... I had a few others but my phone is acting up.

Basically they all say to obtain parental consent IF the parent is present. I'm fairly positive that regardless of whether you or an assistant has written consent or not you are legally obligated to perform CPR or first aid if a child in your care requires it. Contact a lawyer if you disagree or are unsure. None of us here can give you proper advice as far as the legality of something.

Mr Sir - a NYS blue card gives you permission to provide/obtain all emergency medical care for a child.
