Do you do a small Christmas program? I run a small in home day l care and would love to do a Christmas program but not sure how or where. I only have 6 dc in the morning ages 1, 2, 2, 3, 3, 4 two of them only come twice a week and then I have 3 kindergarteners and any the nonverbal 3 in the afternoon. There is not a time when all of my kids are together as my 2 of my preschool age leave before kindergarteners are out of school. How could I make this work or is it even worth it? What do you do?

It sounds nice...but I am a Negative Nellie about that kind of stuff.
In Hallmark movies, the kids all behave and the adoring parents take photos as Christmas music plays in the background. After the program, grateful parents rave about all the hard work of the provider......
In reality, one will need to go potty at a crucial moment in the performance. One will be crying and stamping their feet because his mommy couldn't be there. One will bite the other.........and then the parents will leave without so much as a thanks..........
Whoa.....I'm the Grinch personified LOL!!!!!- Flag

I have done one for the last 4 years. Here is a link to my facebook page with a few pics from this year(scroll down a bit to see it).https://www.facebook.com/GreenGateEarlyLearning
It has been trial and error.Every year I say to myself "Why do I do this??" LOL::
But I have all 2-5 year olds (8 of them) and they are all full time every day. It is a lot of work, time, and money.
It really does turn out great and it is a "Hallmark moment", but it comes at a cost. If I had fewer kids, younger kids, or part time kids I would not do it.
Even so, it is a lot of fun and I am always proud of the finished production. The parents LOVE it and the kids are proud of all their hard work. After the show I give the kids a little Christmas gift ad everyone enjoys Christmas cookies.- Flag

The last two years with 8 kids, 3 of whom are school aged and it was a recipe for disaster. The SA kids came off the bus sugared up from the school parties and were off the walls. The preschool kids have several parties that involve parents leaving early to attend, so my open house became one more thing to leave work for. Last year none of the SA kids wanted to sing and refused to participate, though of course they kept eating the treats and running all over
And on top of that one of my DCP's brings a SIX PACK!!!!!
So yeah, I cancelled it this year- Flag

Hehe! For years I hosted an Holiday Open House for my dcp's. It was always the last day before my vacation and the last 1/2 house of dc. When I first started doing it, it *was* very much a Hallmark moment. Picture 3 or 4 kids aged 1-3. They sang some songs, showed their parents off, exchanged gifts - ADORABLE!

We do a holiday party the last hour on the Friday before vacation. We have a special treat for snack, a holiday song sing-along (with songs they learned at their weekly music lesson), and a secret friend gift exchange. A sing-along is easier to manage with little ones IMO because there is no pressure to "perform." The kids and parents (and I) love the whole thing! If no one seemed to like it I wouldn't do it because I love the holidays and wouldn't want my good cheer ruined.- Flag
