I have three new families this year. I knew it was coming. It does every year. Even when I have it in my handbook. Even though I discuss it during interviews. Even though I send home reminders before a holiday....

"I'm not going to be here Christmas week. Do I really have to pay? I saw your note but I just wanted to make sure"

Really? Cause I had nothing better to do with my time than to send home reminders of payment to those not attending just for a JOKE!

Well lets see. I am open. I am here. I am making plans and scheduling. I am getting up in the morning to open the doors and going grocery shopping to feed the gang. I don't get off for two weeks. Or a week and half. Or even a week. So yeah. You have to pay.

What part of a 'pay for the spot' do not people get? They read it. They hear me say it. But it doesn't seem to penetrate. Do they not understand what that means or just assume if they keep asking in shock, I will say they don't have to.

Sigh....after 20 some odd years, I have to say it gets kinda old.

I dont get it either. They just dont want to take no for an answer and it is worth a shot to keep asking and play dumb than to just stick with the original agreement.

It is about the most frustrating thing! I feel so stressed at vacation and holidays. Like I am being some horrible person cause I know SOMEONE will come back and complain. Complain cause Im closed. Complain cause Im open. Complain cause they don't want to pay. I mean geesh! This is why I sent the notices out in the first place cause of the newbies and yet they still questioned it.

"I got your notice. We still have to pay Christmas week? Just checking. Its ok. I just wasn't sure." WHY did he think I was sending the notice? Why did he ask if its 'ok'? Of course it isn't. Thats why you brought it up.

The dad is passive too. I am awaiting the mother to come in and say something. She is NOT passive and won't let it go I am sure. If he brought it up, it means they talked about it and aren't happy.

I have never once had a parent ask me if they had to pay for time not used... and certainly never had a parent try and not pay me for time not used. I only really hear about this issue here on the board, not with providers I know personally...

The only difference I know is that most of you charge weekly and we all charge monthly - so maybe parents don't see a missed week in a month as such a big deal?

I get paid weekly and I have never had this problem either. I'm lucky I have really great families!

And THAT is the key.

My great parents never complain. They pay on time. Pick up on time. And when I send home group reminders about stuff like this they take it personally and think they are the ones I'm referring too. The ones who show late, expect more, complain constantly, are the ones that think they do nothing wrong. I would love to say mine are all great. But they aren't. *sigh*

It's the same here with me. I guess I am really lucky that I haven't ever had this issue. In fact a couple of families went above and beyond with days off so that I am closed w/pay from the 23rd-1st.
