I was JUST thinking the same thing. I have an opening to fill and if it's not filled by Jan, I can take an infant, but not sure if I want to or not. I love having babies, but...

These families will certainly be in our prayers this evening.
Last Thursday in my community, the 6th grade boys basketball team was playing a nearby town/middle school team and one of our 12 yr old players collapsed and died in the middle of the game.

They haven't stated a reason yet but so far reports are that he was in good health and had no underlying issues they were aware of.

I know he wasn't an infant but he is still someone's baby and my first thought was also "so close to the holidays" too.

Saying a prayer for anyone who has lost a loved one recently

A dear associate of mine a few years back experienced a death in her daycare. She was investigated and the autopsy determined cause of death was SIDS. It was a newborn who had only been in her care 2 weeks.

The DCM was devastated and accusatory. The provider was devastated. After the 3 month investigation was closed and she was cleared, she reopened. She only lasted 2 months. She was too uncomfortable with caring for others’ children. She ended up leaving her husband & kids.

          Extremely sad…..

Infants die. Sometimes we don't know why. More infants are at daycare, so yes they are going to die at daycare. I think, overall, however, we are seeing less dying of SIDS as we are learning to use safer concepts, so I don't think there are more dying altogether.
I also believe most DCP provide safer sleep than parents so I don't think there are more deaths at daycare than there used to be, probably less. We just hear about the daycare ones, and very little about parent ones.
