16 Mo Old DCB Doesn't Sleep, Anywhere!

I have had this DCB for 5 mo now. We are always fighting sleep issues, his behavior is staring to really pay for it. When he is tired he destroys the house and screams. It can be exhausting. Mom doesn't keep much of a schedule he shows up anywhere between 8:30 and 11 and usually shows up hungry. Anyway, he has nights, usually 3-4 a week where he does not sleep. To the point where mom and brother sometimes skip school for the day and go back to bed.

On these days he is with me and is exhausted and over tired so he stands in the crib and screams! Not only is this a problem for him but once I get other children it will be impossible to have more than him in a room.

I don't know what to do, I make comments to mom often about his sleep needs. She seems concerned but won't take him to anyone and his pediatrician told her to give him benedryl. This has been going on since before he started here so I think it is more serious than benedryl.

I guess this is really just a vent as I'm not sure there is actually an answer to the problem that I/we can fix without MAJOR effort by mom.

I am not sure but I am having a similar problem with a 13mo. She stands in her Pak-N-Play and screams. She will do this for up to 2 hours and still not fall asleep. I think her mom has got her trained that if she screams loud enough and long enough she will get her back up.

I have had to move her to a room upstairs because she is so disruptive to the other kids!

This sounds similar, in the beginning I know mom got up all night to cuddle him. It only seemed to make it worse and now it is just a standard behavior.

 It is nice to know that these problems are kind of everywhere.

oh yes, the loser down the street would fill my facebook page up with the same complaints. Well she even brought the child to the dr. So we started to question her what the dr said and she would ignore us. Well it came out and the dr said that she needs to stop running to her every time she made a noise and stop forcing her to sleep all the time. She was so mad because the dr made her feel like a loser, but all her friends kept telling her that she needed to stop over stimulating the child and stop running to her everytime she made a peep---oh she defriended me on facebook because I spoke the truth.
