    Insurance Waiver For Swim Lessons?

I'd love some help from anyone who takes their children to swim lessons.

I have the opportunity to have a swim class created just for us at an excellent swim school. I haven't done car transportation in the past, because I have had too many children. But at the moment, I have only 3 children one day, and could fit them in my car. So I asked my FCC insurance company if I could do it.

They suggested a waiver (a form basically saying the parents won't sue if their child gets hurt, maimed or dies). The sample one they gave me was so horrifying, I can't imagine any parent would ok the lessons.

The swim school says they have a strong insurance policy, and isn't concerned about waivers.

If you do swim lessons, do your parents sign a waiver like this? If so, what does it say? Does it exempt you, the swim teacher, or both?

    Any other advice?

Parents can't sign away their right to sue.

Even if you have that waiver from them, they can still sue you if you were negligent in anyway.

I would just make sure you have the right type of insurance for your auto.

We have swim lessons here too every Tues and Thurs but our are through the local YMCA and they provide transportation. ALL my preschoolers (age 2 and up) go and I have only 2 toddlers for 2 hours two days a week.

That's kind of what I was thinking. If it were really my fault, or the swim school's fault, that piece of paper would be pretty ridiculous.

That's what I was trying to do! I got the waiver thing in response.

They go without you? Wow. Do the parents pay for lessons, or do you?

They go with the volunteers from the YMCA and then in the pool are the YMCA swim instructors.

The parents pay $25 for 8 lessons per month. If they are low income, they can apply for a scholarship for an even cheaper rate.

As far as insurance goes for transporting, have you checked with your licensor to see what is required? Here we just have to have $100,000/300,000 insurance...I am not even really sure what that means though...I never looked into it because I don't transport.

Wonder if there are any members here from the same state as you that can help

Wow! What a difference location makes. These lessons will be $99 for 6 lessons per kid--and that's a deal! :-)

How awesome that they transport for you!
