    Crying Baby

I watch a 8 mo old since he was 3 mo. We have really created a good schedule for him. I am still working on naps which are two a day: the morning is 30 min and afternoon is 30-60 min.

However, in the last month, his screaming is horrible. It begins after the morning nap. He wakes up and cries and cries and cries. He stops when we go outside, but then starts up again when we go inside.

Parents are working with him as well, but they are at a loss. I understand this is still kinda young for CIO and I feel this is just a phase.

I definitely believe he is also frustrated with his movement, or lack there of. We do so much tummy time, sitting, no "babysitter" toys, but I would say he is a little behind as he does roll from his tummy to back and is not moving forward.

I guess I am looking for constructive ideas and encouragement this will go away when he is a little older. If not, I am just investing in good ear plugs.

He sounds tired. Most children need more than an hour of sleep a day. All children under 18 months sleep for an hour in the a.m. and 2-2.5 hours in the afternoon. He's probably crying after his morning nap because he's still tired.

He's 8 months old? IMO that is the perfect age for sleep training. I agree with the previous poster, kids that age are usually doing one hour in the AM and two+ hours in the PM here. I have all infants in their own nap rooms, which I keep cool and very dark - perfect for sleeping. I also use fans in every nap to block noise. Provided there are no medical issues (and I'm going to assume that this was the first thing that was evaluated) and he's fed, changed, etc. I would probably go in with a "shhhhh, friends are sleeping, night night" and give it 5 - 10 minutes between going back in. I would not pick baby up or say anything other then "shhhhh, sleeping time, night night"
It sounds as if he's getting lots of floor time, and I would keep that up. I do think it's probably a phase as I recall this with my last two infants just before they were more mobile.

i agree he needs more sleep. this is more than he was getting two months ago when he was getting 20 min a day! I also agree he needs a dark quiet room however, regs does not permit this. He has to be in my sight (not a video monitor) and in the same room as me. We had an annual inspection where providers were written up for the sleeping baby situation, none of which were big deals (not having a sign near the crib saying the baby can roll over, toys in the crib even though there wasn't a child in it) but it was a big inspection. I am just hoping that if I continue to meet his needs he will grow out of it.
