    Cough?

ALL through nap yesterday. Intermittent throughout the day. Today it is WAY worse, coughing all day long to the point of gagging. Continually woke up during nap, bringing up green/brown phlegm.

Child is 3.5, able to cover mouth (most of the time). The cough is one of the worst I have ever heard and I have a ds with asthma!

I am closed Thurs/Fri, would you request a dr visit tomorrow? before returning if it doesn't improve?

These are the parents who will wait until I MAKE them take him in before going, so it won't happen without a push.

We had two kids here with a cough and no other symptoms and they both had ear infections (out of the blue)!

The coughing to the point of gagging is usually a bad sign with kids unless it's a one time thing. My kids have had pneumonia and the cough was awful. Coughing to the point of throwing up almost every coughing fit. The runny nose or fever combined with the nasty cough is usually a bad sign. I've had a nasty cough for almost 2 wks now and it ****s. I got better then got worse again but no fever, just congestion and cough. I actually feel good today but took Excedrine, Sudafed and Mucinex as soon as I woke up because yesterday ****ed!!

I send them home if they are coughing so much that they (or the other children) can't sleep at nap. I also send them home if they are coughing until gagging. I do not send them home for runny noses or coughing in general as long as they are able to participate and are old enough not to be spreading snot all over everything!

I had a DCB couch so hard he threw up right in front of DCM. She said, "I'll bring cough medicine with him tomorrow." WHAT THE WHAT?!?

She didn't like my real reply.

I would send home now and require a doctor note for tomorrow or return next Monday. Sometimes a cough is just a cough. I have had one that would cough and spit up and it would just be from sinus drainage. However, a cough that is lingering needs to be evaluated in my opinion. In my county, we are having a lot of whooping cough/croup going around. I sent one cougher home last Thursday and the dr said it was just due to weather/allergies. Now, she has fever and croup. I think it's always better to get medical advice.

I didn't send home, child napped from 12:50-3:20! Gets picked up at 4:30. I told Mom that he needed to see a dr before returning to care and gave her the medical form for the dr. She insisted that DCK has no cough. Then as we are 'talking' dck starts coughing, and coughing, and finally coughs up enough phlegm to fill his elbow/shirt. It's dark brown and THINK. We had to change his shirt! Dcm says "Oh, I will call you tomorrow and let you know when his appointment is."

                  THANK YOU!!!!!!!!
