    Getting Annoyed

So I have this family that I recently revamped my contract for. They have been here for a little over a year and they were supposed to be full time. When contracted she had an issue paying for days off so I was financially comfy so I agreed to allow her prorated fee for sick days. They would have a stuffy nose and be out for the day. Mom has a very good job where she has several weeks of sick time in addition to weeks of vacation time. However one of the kids were constantly getting sick and therefore her "full time" was actually 3 or 4 days a week.

After a year of constantly changing my budget I had enough. I told them I was no longer doing part time care and families would need to pay for the spot instead of the hours. She agreed and now her kids are contantly here sick and whiney and she doesn't keep them home anymore. Today the little boy comes and is whiney from the start. Within a hour starts crying and holding his ear, apparently in pain. I call mom to let her know and she ask to give him some motrin and let her know if it continues Seriously??? Ummm no, you need to pick him up. Your child is crying in pain. He doesn't need to be laying on a mat in daycare, he should be home with you comfortatable. What is wrong with parents these days??

    Ring Ring Ring

    DCM: "Hello?"

YOU: "Billy is not feeling well. He will need to be picked him up immediately."

That's it. I would not engage in any further conversation.

I would not medicate him upon mom's request, especially since there is no medical reason for doing so. If something should happen, you would be responsible.

I would also not allow the child(ren) to be in care if they are not ready and prepared for the day.....this includes feeling well enough to participate.

If a child NEEDS medication they NEED to be home.

I agree and said he needed to be picked up, but why should we have to tell them they need to pick up their sick kids?? If my child was in pain and crying I would not feel comfortable going about my day and having someone else take care of him.

...and that is why YOU are a child care provider and not a daycare parent

Our definition of parenting is not the same as other people's definition
