    Paint

I was wondering what you all use for paint.
Do you buy it? Do you make it?

I was buying for awhile and then it was getting so expensive so I tried making it. It came out great, but then after it cooled was all gloopy and clumpy like.

Can anyone share some cheap paint or easy home recipes?

i buy it from discount school supply. I mix baby shampoo into it for a very easy clean up and it stretches the paint a little farther.

We don't do too much paint, but when we do I use Crayola. It's just what I prefer. You can get some on Amazon for pretty cheap too. Crayola

I use BioColor, which comes from Discount School Supply. I LOVE it and have used it for years. Very safe, quite washable (not perfect), and looks wonderful on paper (none of that cracking/flaking mess you get with some types). You can use it as tempera or fingerpaint or water it down as watercolor. I'd used it in schools for years, so when I decided to open my family child care, I knew I'd want it. I had no kids enrolled yet, so I was scared to spend a lot of money, but the little bottles seemed so pricey and tiny. So I went ahead and bought the whole 11 gallons for $220--terrifying! But 7 years later, I'm still working from the same bottles of most of the colors, and only bought a few replacement bottles this year. Well worth it. High quality art supplies are really important to me.

I'm thinking of only buying white and primary colors, putting them in those plastic ketchup containers like they have at restaurants and letting the kids mix their own colors. I have those paint cups but the paint dries out. Anyone ever do this? Any more ideas?

You still have paint from 7 yrs ago? Do you always water it down? How many kids do you have? How often do you paint?

I have 4 kids, paint at least once a week and I buy paint every couple months. That sounds like I would be saving a lot of money. happyface

                I know. Pretty cool.

I have 4-8 kids, depending on the day/time of year. Paint is always available in the studio, and sometimes it's used a lot, sometimes not. Sometimes we paint every day, sometimes we might not paint all week. When we do, I pretty much never water it down (I buy separate watercolor paints) and I don't limit paint usage. We mix paint colors in mason jars, and store the leftovers in them to use another day.

Attaching two pics just for kicks. :-)
