I mentioned it to a parent again today, "Don't forget we are closed Thursday & Friday next week." She said, "Friday too? I wanted to go shopping." I smiled & said, "Yep, visiting family outta town for the holidays." She screwed up her face at that, .

This is all exactly what I do except my calendar is in the front hall by the sign in sheet. You see it right when you walk in the door.

I sent out an email at the beginning of the month with our holidays/personal days (closed w/th/f this week & December 20- Jan 2). Emailed out another copy last week. Posted a copy of the calendar by the sign in sheet last week. This morning when we mention a 2 day week DCD acts shocked and says he doesn't think DCM knows either. It was nice because another DCD walked in on the conversation and said that he had seen the emails.

But really ? At first I felt bad, like maybe they had missed the e-mails. But I sent them out 2 different ways (one through our daycare group emails, and one from my personal email account) just to make sure. And at bare minimum it was on the sign-in sheet for a week.

One of my long term families -over 4 years between 2 kiddos- asked today how much tuition was for the week (I allow cash payments at drop off monday). I was like "uuuhhhh, well, it's the full price.... holidays are paid...." They always have been paid, maybe it has just been too long since July 4th??

A few years ago I had a parent who is a nurse say " Oh, I just found out that I have Christmas day off, so it looks like you have a day off too!"

She said that was too much notice and how was she suppose to remember that. She didn't make it to Christmas here! I have since posted my days off on my door for the parents to see everyday! It works really well!
Well she could have used her big girl words and asked you if you were closed. Too much notice. Now that's a laugh.

A friend of mine had a new DCB start today, and DCM said "Well, you won't have him on Th/F because I am off". Actually, she won't have him Th/Fr because she is closed. Good Grief !

a few years ago I actually took a family on Thanksgiving day.
It was back in my if I don't do what the parent wants, they will go somewhere else phase (parent worked at a grocery store and had no family, single mom, and kids were like family... but still shouldn't have done it)
I finally got a backbone and now parents would NEVER ask me now to be open on a major holiday.

Five years ago, I took care of one 5 year old little girl during Christmas, even bought her presents and stuff because her mom had a serious mental illness and was taken away by social services and the worker begged me to take her or she would have been placed in a group home similar to juvenile hall because there were no foster homes available. So I gladly took her and still would today. lovethis
