So after much time, a lot of effort, and a serious pile of cash... I am almost officially licensed. My state inspector and the fire/safety guy were here today and agreed that everything looks good and the improvements I made are up to code. My paperwork is being filed with a supervisor for review and I should have a license in early December.

It does.. now I just have to get insurance started and hopefully find some kids. My licensor explained to me that being one of only 3 male providers he knows it might be a bit of a challenge as a lot of parents might look at it as kinda weird, but after I enroll a couple and become established, word of mouth and having those references will help a lot.

Wow! I know how good this feels for you! I am in southwestern PA and it took 16 months to get my little center open and licensed. Congrats!!!! There are two male providers in my local area and they have a waiting list. It does take time to line up those little ones, but have faith... It will happen! Good for you!

Congrats! happyface It does seem like the process takes forever! I agree that you may run into trouble with some people not wanting a man to care for their children, but if that is the sole reason they don't want you, you probably don't want them as families either! I am sure there will be plenty of other people who want a positive role model in their child's life. Good luck!
